5. Chapter three

Third person POV

Harry left for his trial early in the morning with Mr.Weasley leaving everyone else to clean the house. At about one o'clock Sirius pulled Emerald away from everyone and into an empty room.

"Look, Emma, I know things have been hard on you since Voldemort-"

"Moldy-warts." Emerald corrected automatically. Sirius gave her a half-smile.

"Right, since *Moldy-warts* came back, but if there's anything you want to discuss-"

"Is it true?" Emerald interrupted.

"Is what true?" Asked Sirius hesitantly.

"About me...he told me something. In my mind. Like...telepathy or legilimency or something." Emerald explained.

"Told you what?"

"Do you swear not to tell anyone?"

"Of course!" Sirius said.

"He...he told me that I-I was his daughter." Emerald paused for a moment then continued, "I was wondering if you knew if it was true."

"Your mother told me once that she had a relationship with Voldemort but she never said that he was your father. But, I guess he wouldn't want something like that to get out..." Sirius trailed off.

"But...is it a possibility? Could I really be his daughter?"

"I don't know. It is possible but... I wouldn't let this information get to anyone but me. They already know that your Bellatrix's daughter and I wouldn't think that this would make you anymore popular."

"So...so my real name is Emerald Belladonna Riddle?"

"....yes." Said Sirius. Emerald walked out, but stopped as her hand reached the golden door knob.

"Look um...your like the only sane relative in my bloodline and I know that I can trust you so...don't tell anyone. Please." Emerald said before turning the knob and walking away. Sirius had a sad look on his face. It was obvious from the tone of her voice that she was holding back tears. Seconds later George came rushing into the room.

"What's wrong with Emma?" He asked urgently.

"I can't tell you." Said Sirius quickly.

George ran up to Sirius and grabbed the scruff of his shirt.

"Listen up, Old man. Whatever you said got to her and she's upstairs crying her eyes out so you WILL tell me what's wrong with her and I will NOT leave until you give me a sufficient answer to my question! What. Is. Wrong. With. Emma!" George said.

"She told me not tell anyone. If you want to know what's bothering her you'll have to ask her." Said Sirius calmly. George let him go and ran up the stairs. He knocked softly on Emerald's door.

"Em?" He said softly, "Can I come in?"

There was a sniffle and the distinct sound of a door being unlocked was heard. The door opened to show a red-faced Emma, tears running down her cheeks and snot slowly trickling down the nostril of her nose.

"What do you want?" She asked, her throat raw from crying. George walked in the room and closed the door behind him with a *click*.

"What did he say to you?" Asked George softly.

"Nothing."

"We both know your lying."

"I can't tell you."

"Come on. I don't judge."

Emerald let out a weak scoff. "You will if I tell you."

"It can't possibly be that bad! I mean, it's not like you he-who-must-not-be-named's daughter."

"What if I was?"

George froze.

"Are you?"

"Would you care if I was?"

"......yes. No. Maybe...."

"I am."

"Oh. Well, I don't care about your name. Don't tell anyone."

"George."

"Yeah?"

"Don't treat me differently. Like I'm...fragile or mentally troubled. I-i don't want to be looked at differently."

"Of course."

"Thank you." She said earnestly," I didn't tell anyone. Not even your mother."

George smiled. "I'm glad you trust me. Go to sleep."

"I'll miss Harry."

"You'll see him tomorrow."

"Read to me."

"Huh?"

"The book on the table, next to The Hunger Games."

"The Tales of Beedle the Bard?"

"Yup. The tale of three brothers."

"Okay. There once were three brothers walking along a lonely, winding road at twilight. Soon they came upon a river that was to treacherous to cross but, being learned in the magical arts, the first brother merely waved his wand and conjured a bridge. However, before they could pass it a cloaked figure blocked their way. It was Death. He felt cheated, he usually gained new victims in the river. But Death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the brothers on escaping him and said that they earned gifts. The first brother asked for a wand more powerful than any others so death fashioned one from an elder tree that stood near by. The second brother wished to humiliate Death even more, so he asked for a stone bring back the dead and death have him a pebble that lay in the river. The third brother was a humble and wise man, so Death reluctantly handed over his own invisibility cloak. After crossing the bridge the three brothers parted ways. The first brother went to a bar and with the elder wand in hand, he killed a wizard he had once quarreled with. Late at night another wizard snuck into the first brothers room and took the elder and slit the brothers throat for good measure. So, death took the first brother for his own. The second brother returned home and turned to the stone thrice in hand. To his delight his fiancé appeared after her untimely death. Soon however, she grew sad and cold, for she did not belong in the mortal world. So, driven mad with longing the second brother killed himself to be with his lover. And death took the second brother for his own. As for the brother, death searched and searched but did not find him. It was only when he reached a great age that the third brother shed the invisibility cloak and gave it to his son. He then greeted death as an old friend." George read. He smiled. Emerald had fallen asleep and was now snoring lightly. He apparated up to his room.

*MAGICAL PASSAGE OF MORE TIME*

Harry came home at around six o'clock and everyone celebrated that he got off. Fred George Ginny and Tonks even started a war chant

HE GOT OFF HE GOT OFF! Mrs.Weasley made sure that ended before it had been said thrice.

The next morning was hectic. Ron and Hermione were the Gryffindor prefects and Emerald was a Ravenclaw prefect and the Ravenclaw quidditch captain. Once everyone was ready they took Mr.Weasley's Ford Angela to Kings Cross. As we were walking a black dog came next to us.

"Padfoot! Are you barking mad? You'll blow the entire operation!" Said Madeye. Sirius led Harry to a sitting room and Madeye, Emerald, and Tonks guarded the door for the ten minutes Sirius and Harry talked.

When they came out everyone rushed on the train. Harry sat alone in his compartment, Ron and Hermione had prefect duties together, and Emerald had duties with fellow Ravenclaw, Marcus Belby. Emerald hated Belby, or as she called him, Hellby. When they got to the Great Hall Emerald bade Harry, Ron, Hermione a good night and sat next to Luna at the Ravenclaw table. Dumbledore began his speech but was interrupted by the new DADA teacher, Professor Umbridge.

"Thank you, Professor, for those kind words of welcome! And how lovely to see all your your bright, happy faces smiling up at me!" Not one person looked remotely happy. "the ministry has always considered the education of young witches and wizards to be of vital importance, and, though each headmaster has brought something new to this historic school," she gave Dumbledore a nod. "Progress, for the sake progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected, and prune practices that ought to be prohibited!" Emma's eyes were wide with realization.

"What's that mean?" Asked Cho.

Emma took a deep breath and spoke, "It means that the Ministry's interfering at Hogwarts."
