Amy fox contacted Rose Wilkinson on the Friday morning and told her that Cathy was willing to come to North Shields but only for the week end.

“Why just the weekend asked Rose?

“She is uncertain at the moment Rose; you can under stand that can’t you?

“Yes I guess so.

“I will bring her to the station at one o’clock; that will give her time to pack.”

“Thank you; see you soon then, bye.”

Rose told George and they packed their cases and then ate a good breakfast before setting out for the train back to North Shields. They thanked Moira and Andrew then called in on Jan Barber and Edna before leaving in the taxi. They saw Cathy standing with Amy who gave her train tickets that would be return then said she would meet her on the return train that would arrive at nine o’clock on the Sunday evening.

Then she left and Cathy sat and waited on the platform until the train came and they boarded. George had bought some pre packed sandwiches and two cans of orangeade when he went for the tickets.

“Don’t be nervous Cathy love you are going to love North Shields.

On board the train Rose spent over an hour describing what North Shields was like; she tried to paint a picture of what Cathy would expect to see once they arrived in Newcastle.

The train arrived in Newcastle and they walked up Grey Street then up onto Northumberland Street. Cathy took in everything as they walked up to the Hay Market bus stop where they got on the 301 bus that would drop them off right outside the house.

George pointed out the Civic Centre and the University as the bus passed. Cathy was very quiet but was taking in everything with her eyes. When they were nearing Georges house Cathy seemed to pay more attention the bus pulled in at Percy Main and a new driver got on. Four more stops darling and we will be home.

The bus turned onto Burt Avenue and carried on up towards the Quadrant.

George pressed the bell and they collected their luggage from the rack and got off. Cathy looked around the street as they crossed over to the house. Mrs Best was the first to come out.

“Oh your back then George; did you have a pleasant trip.”

“Yes we did?

“This is Cathy Rose’s daughter and Rose is now my wife so is there anything else you would like to know?

“Good said George as he opened the door and went inside.

George put the cases on the bed then put on his clothes that were hanging up and his gardening boot. He came out then told Rose that he was going to the allotment.

“Please make yourself at home Cathy whilst I go round and check on my garden.”

Rose showed Cathy her room and helped her put her clothes that she had brought into the wardrobe.
