“Thank you mammy; can I keep them.

“Yes of course; anyway let’s go to this Wimpy bar that you like and I will buy your tea.

At the wimpy bar Rose asked Cathy how she was doing at school and what subjects she liked the best. I like geography and would like to be a journalist when I leave school.

“Well you would need to go to college then onto university if you want to be a journalist.” Are you good at English?”

“Yes, I am top in my year group.”

“That is very good but you have a lot of years at school yet and I’m sure George can help you with your English as he has a doctorate in history.”

I like history too we are learning about the Pharaohs and ancient Egypt at the moment.

“Do you have a house in Scotland then mammy?

“No Cathy I live with George in a place called North Shields.

It’s not far from Newcastle in the North East.

“I plan to open my own shop where I will make and sell fashion clothes.”

“Would you be able to make clothes for me then?

“Yes; you would be the envy of all your friends at school.

“I wouldn’t have any friends if I moved to North Shields though would I?

“I’m sure that you would make new friends Cathy as the Geordies are very friendly people. “ If your friends want to come and stay I’m sure that we could put them up in our house couldn’t we George?

“Yes; of course you can all come and help me in my allotment garden where I will teach you how to grow your own fruit, vegetables, and flowers.”

“That would be nice.”

“Well I’m sure Cathy has a lot to think about don’t you? So we will give her a few days in which to decide.”

“Thank you Mrs Fox.

“We leave on Sunday, so if you could let us know before then it would be nice. Then we can order a ticket in advance you see?

“I hope to see you again Cathy; I love you very much you know.”

“Thank you mammy, and thank you too George, Bye for the now.”

She kissed her mother on the cheek then got into the car. Rose waved as it pulled away and watched until the car faded into the distance.

“What do you think George; do you think she will come back with us?

“I cannot say Rose; Kids do not like to relocate, she has done that twice already.

“But I am her mother George.”

“I know that love but children get hurt so easily that they cling on to whatever makes them happy. It is a big ask for a child to relocate to an area that she is unfamiliar with.

“Yes you’re right George, maybe a visit might have been a better option?

“We will see aye?

George and Rose walked back to the Glenmoore Hotel and told Moira and Andrew the news.

“Give her a few days she will come around hen; kids are funny like that.

“Here have a wee drink it will make you feel better. “ I don’t suppose you will be going on your honeymoon yet said Andrew as he passed them both a whiskey and soda.
