When Bobby was done he asked if Irene was ready for the adventure of her life.

“What’s in that brown bag?

“It’s some apples and carrots for Mollie to feed the horses.”

“Bobby you think of everything.”

“I’m used to being organised, it come’s second nature to me.”

Mollie ran in and told her mother that she had been feeding the animals with Mr Sarin.

“I want to be a farmer when I grow up mam.”

It is very hard work you know Mollie; you would have to be up at five o’clock to milk the cows every morning then there’s fields to plough and seed to plant then you have to make sure no pests attack the crops. I’m sure Mr Sarin could teach me everything I need to know. It’s what I want to do mam I’ve made up my mind. Would it be alright if I could come every weekend and help out on the farm then I could learn all there is to know about the animals and the farm.”

“I even helped muck out the stables this morning.”

“Could I Mr Ross?

“It is up to your mum Mollie, not me.”

“Can I mam? I will work hard.” “I will be thirteen next year and when I’m fifteen I am going to work on the farm full time.”

“Your daughter is a very determined character Irene; she reminds me of myself at her age.”

“Well if Mr Ross can organise a lift for you then I will let you.”

“You will be coming too won’t you mam?

“I hope you will come too Irene?

“It’s getting back for work Bobby.

“Look I’m asking you if you would like to come and stay with me. I like you a lot and I’ve never see you happier. Just think of the life you could have here with me; and if you want to work I will make you the manager of one of the factories.

“What do I know about pickles Bobby?

“What did you know about kippers until someone showed you?

“I will promise to look after you and Mollie.

“Can we mam? can we come and stay with Mr Ross; I like him a lot.”

“What about my job Bobby; I just cannot leave after all my boss has done for me.”

“I can have a word with him Irene or you can ring him from here later. I will leave it to you to decide.” Anyway let’s get the horses and go for a ride.

“Can I ride Bella Mr Ross?

Bobby drove them to the stables then showed Mollie how to saddle the pony then took a riding hat like the girls all wore at the gymkhanas.

Now be firm with Bella, but not cruel; lead her out of the stable by her reins.

“Come on Bella, Mollie said as she clicked her tongue. The piebald was happy to walk with Mollie.

“Now it’s your turn, here take the reins and lead Angel out.”

Irene nervously took the reins then gently urged Angel forward see followed.

Irene smiled and said look she follows me.

“I told you, all animals just want to please.
