“Irene flashed him a smile then grabbed a clip board and asked Bobby to follow her. She was wearing a tight pair of jeans and Bobby took in the view of her rear as she walked out of the store and locked all the doors.

She took off the head square and the clips that held her hair in place. She lent her head back and flicked the straight black shining locks which took bobby’s breath away.

Wow! He whispered just loud enough for her to hear as they walked along the quayside. Irene pointed out the names of the stores as she went along until they reached the seaman’s mission.

“Hi Alice; can I have two of your finest please; one extra large this gentleman has travelled a long way and he is hungry.

“Would you like teas’ with that Irene, asked Alice?

“Yes please said Irene as she made her way to the table where Bobby had picked out

He stood up and pulled out the seat for her so that she could sit opposite him. Bobby couldn’t keep his eyes off Irene.

“I hope that your husband would mind you eating with a stranger Irene?

“No he wouldn’t.”

“Well if you were my wife; I wouldn’t let you out of my sight.”

“My husband is dead Bobby, I’m a widow.”

“I’m sorry Irene.”

“I’m not; he was a dirty cheating son of a whore; he left me and my daughter for another woman then got her pregnant then got him self killed stealing lead off the Dye Works roof along the road there.”

Alice brought their dinners over and the plate that Bobby had would have choked a mule its beef stew with corner puddings and there’s Rhubarb Crumble and custard.

Bobby went to pay and Irene stopped him.

“This one’s on me she said; don’t worry I will be charging it to the boss as a business lunch.”

“Irene you are one clever woman and if you ever need a job you could come and work for me.”

“My boss was very good to me when I was going through a bad time I couldn’t do that to him Bobby.”

Bobby tasted the beef stew and the beef was tender as any he’d ever tasted.

“This is delicious Irene.”

“I have a house keeper and her food is terrible; I wouldn’t feed it to my dog.”

“You have a dog Bobby?

“Yes did you not see her as we came out; she sits up front with me every where I go.”

“What do you call her?

“Cassie.”

“Nice; what type of dog is she?

“She’s a black Labrador with a shiny coat; just like your hair.”

“Are you trying to make me blush Bobby Ross.”

“You are the prettiest woman I’ve ever met.”

“Stop it and eat your dinner.

Irene’s cheeks had flushed and she looked even prettier.
