2. The Leaky Cauldron

3 days later, we received an owl back in response to Severus and my' letters. It said to go to the Leaky Cauldron in London and ask for the bartender, Tom. He would take us from there. So, a week later, Severus, my mum, and I piled into our car and headed to London.

Sev's dad had supplied him with some money for supplies. A short ride later, we entered a dingy, dirty pub, only after passing by it 3 times.

The sights inside caught me by surprise. I expected to see drunks in every corner and sketchy people stealing things. What I did see was a long table in the middle of the room with a bright chandelier hanging over it. People in pointed hats and colorful robes were dotted around the room, chatting with paintings, levitating food from the kitchen to their tables. Wait... Talking... TO PAINTINGS! Almost everyone was having a conversation with the portrait or poster by their table. LEVITATING! Sure enough there were people pointing sticks at objects and making then float to various places.

After adjusting my eyes to all the strange going-on's in this restaurant, my mum led us to the bar. We asked the sever if we could speak to Tom please. A medium sized old man came hobbling out from behind the bar. Even though his wrinkles and gray balding hair showed age, his smile seemed as if he were only a child.

"Hello," he said, grinning down on Sev and me, "Muggleborn 1st years huh? One of the few to be smart enough to find there own way here. Send a letter by owl?" I nodded my head. "We have to send a professor to help most Muggleborns."

"Sorry for asking, but what is a Muggleborn?" Sev questioned.

"Well, a muggle is a non-magical person and a Muggleborn is a witch or wizard that has two muggles for parents. You two are very lucky to be here, magical education is very special." Tom replied. My mum had been silent the whole time. Now she spoke up.

"Is this real?" My mum asked.

"Yes this is real," Tom said, not acting surprised at all. He must get doubted a lot.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I've been so rude. I am Holly Evans and this is Severus Snape and Lily Evans," my mum said.

"I have to tend the bar but let me get you someone who can show you around Diagon Ally," Tom explained.

Tom walked upstairs while my mum ordered Sev and I a butterbeer because it was the only thing on the menu that had no alcohol. When our drinks came out, the whipped cream spiraled into a perfect mountain on top of the frothy Amber liquid. Sev took a sip first, concluding that it tasted like cream soda. We downed our cups by the time Tom came back with a man that was twice the size of a regular person. He had a large tangled beard and spoke with warmth.

"Allo, I'm Hagrid. You must be Lily Evans," Hagrid shook my hand so hard it knocked me over, "and you must be Severus Snape," Hagrid then turned to Snape, who accepted his handshake but held onto a table for stability. Hagrid then faced my mother,"and Mrs. Evans, yes?" Mum shook Hagrid's hand politely.

"Well, lets take you to Diagon Ally," Tom said. He shuffled into a courtyard that's off the back of pub and took out one of those stick things people keep using. After tapping the third brick from the left, the bricks parted making a magical archway that lead to...

"Welcome to Diagon Ally!" Hagrid said
