36. Chapter 34

November 26th, 2015

Zlo’s POV:

I woke up in the dungeon I had seen Alex in. I was chained by my wrists to the wall. Alex was glaring at me with absolute loathing, his hair beginning to flicker.

“Why are you here?” he snarled, his eyes resembling glowing coals. “I came back to…” “Reunite with your master? Betray your friends? Yeah, I guessed that,” he snapped, gritting his teeth. Rude, much?! Peter muttered. I agreed.

“That’s not why! I came to end the war once and for all!” I said. Alex raised an eyebrow at me. “Oh? How on earth were you supposed to do that?” he scoffed, rolling his eyes. I clenched my fists, trying not to get angry.

“Sarah wasn’t the person in the prophecy,” I said quickly. Alex stared at me blankly. “You’re lying,” he whispered, looking away from me. “I wish I was, honest. But I’m not. Sarah died for no reason, and it was my doing,” I said, squeezing my eyes shut.

“You…you’re telling the truth, aren’t you?” Alex asked, his eyes filled with grief. I nodded, a single tear trailing down my cheek. We hung there in silence, both of us waiting for the other to speak.

“How are you still alive? Is Sarah alive as well?” I asked, hopeful. Alex shook his head. “No. Hedvika brought me back using one of her spells. I don’t know why. It was probably to use me as her plaything,” he said, shuddering.

“Oh,” I said quietly. “Why did you ask?” Alex added, cocking his head slightly. “Reasons,” I muttered, unwilling to tell Alex that I had had feelings for Sarah. He sighed. “Suit yourself.” The door creaked open and Alex cringed.

“Zlo! How nice of you to join us!” The Shadow chuckled, followed by Hedvika. I shuddered when I saw that, once again, they were holding hands. Were they a couple?! Gross! The Shadow stretched his hand towards me, and I shrank away.

“Come now, Zlo! No need to be afraid! Your suffering will be short, unlike this one,” The Shadow said, pointing at Alex. We exchanged a glance and his eyes were filled with fear. I turned to The Shadow.

“Please, let Alex go! He is of no use to you,” I said desperately, looking at Alex, The Shadow, and then back again. He let out a soft chuckle and gestured for Hedvika to step forward. She was holding a small box with a syringe that was filled with a green liquid.

Never tell me what to do. Hedvika, administer the serum to Mr. Haisgen please,” he chuckled. Alex closed his eyes, waiting for whatever pain was to come. Hedvika unlocked his cuffs and he collapsed to the ground, too weak to stand. He let out a gasp of pain as Hedvika injected the liquid into his neck.

“N...no! No! Make it stop!” Alex screamed, his entire body twitching. “Mom! Dad! Sarah! Come back! Don’t leave me!” he gasped, his eyes rolling into the back of his head. The Shadow cackled with glee.

“Loneliness, eh? What a peculiar fear,” Hedvika chuckled, lifting Alex’s chin. He shook violently, tears flowing down his cheeks. “Don’t leave. Please come back. It’s cold…so cold,” he whispered, curling up in a ball.

“Your turn,” Hedvika said, turning to me. My breathing became labored as she came closer and closer to me. She poised the needle over my neck, her smile crazed. I closed my eyes, waiting patiently for her to administer the serum. A sharp pain rushed through my body as the serum was forced into my neck. My eyes rolled in the back of my head, and my body went limp.
