Hurdles

Our relationship. It wasn't sonnet inspiring, the story of it won't make thousands want to listen. But it was complicated and it was special to us. It was certainly more than I bargained for from just seeing a boy with a football helmet across the room.

57. Fifty seven

My parents want to go back to England for their own anniversary because they want to have some family barbecue with all of the extended family. I'm excited as I normally am but then I'm even more excited when my parents suggest we take Harry with us.

"Wait, really?" I grin.

"Yeah!" my dad says. "Brie and Daniel were telling us how he really wants to go to England, so why not bring him with us? Your nan has a spare room he can stay in, you two are friends again, why not?"

We are both so excited during the few weeks leading up to that trip. He's excited to go, I'm excited for him to be there and for him to meet my friends. Plus, we've just been having the best time together since we've made up. Hanging out with him is just non stop laughing, he's just so funny and we have so much fun together and I did miss that. There are still moments where it kind of feels like there's more between us and I think we both notice that but it's just natural.

It's probably the cutest thing ever seeing him meet my nan. He is the definition of 'lovely young lad' as many old ladies say. He's so polite with her and they even joke together which is kind of weird but cute too. It's also so weird seeing him in this house where I spent so much of my childhood and the weirdest thing of all is when my nan will wink at me when he's not looking. That's just straight up disgusting.

The second night we're there, we go over to Kylie's so he can meet everyone. I don't know what I was picturing in my head, maybe a hello from them, a bit of uncomfortable small talk before they get used to each other but that's not what happens. Kylie opens the door when we get there and they all scream and Harry screams too and I just stand and watch as they run to each other.

"What is happening?" I laugh.

"We finally meet!" Jaclyn grins up at him.

"My friends!" Harry exclaims and I clear my throat loudly as I walk past them all and they all pull me into a hug.

It doesn't seem like a big enough night to call the best night of my life but it does feel like it. I'm just so happy to sit there with them both and to see them interact and find each other funny and there's just something unbelievably joyful about seeing some of your favourite people come together.

"So what's going on with you guys?" Nicole asks at one point and Harry and I both look at each other.

"Friends." I say straight away.

"Yeah, we're friends." Harry stutters.

Nicole smirks a little. "Are you sure?"

I laugh, relaxing. "Yes. We haven't done the whole friendship thing in a while, it's weird."

"So weird." Harry agrees. "But you know, I'm with her nan now so-"

"You're disgusting!" I hit him and he laughs, shoving me away. I see all my friends give each other a knowing look and I know they're thinking the same thing Leigha did, that I'll cave and that Harry and I will get together but I can't say I'd want that to be honest. Things are so good right now and so certain. It would take a lot for me to put that at risk.
