I'm bullied because I'm different.
Because I don't have a home.
Because I can't afford good clothes.
Because rude things often just slip out of my mouth.
Oh, and because they're all scared that I'll accidentally kill them with my 'magic powers'.
So maybe I'm not your average teenager, but it's not my fault.
I'd give anything to just be normal and accepted.
Of course, things aren't just going to be that way.
So this is my story.

6. Gone

I wake up to a feeling of something missing. I know where I am this time, and I'm certain there is something else that should be here... No... Someone else. Emily. Since we met I had this feeling flowing through my whole body, like all four elements were running through my veins, but it's gone. Something is definitely wrong.

I leap up and throw on a fresh pair of clothes that I find in my wardrobe. Oscar must've gotten them somehow, they're my exact size. Oscar I think, he's missing too. I remember falling asleep to the soft rise and fall of his breath, then shake myself back to reality. I have to find Emily. For a split second, it feels as if all the water has drained out of my body, which is a feeling I can't really describe, but I felt really empty. I am certain that's a sign from Emily, she can control water after all.

I sprint out of the door and knock frantically on Alice, Sophie and Will's house. A bleary eyed girl opens the door. She has long brown hair and looks a lot like Emily. "Emily's missing," I say, absolutely certain of that being the case.

"What... I'm sure she's here. EMILY!" the girl calls out. "I'm Sophie, by the way. Nice to meet you, I'm guessing you're Karina."

"Yeah, right, nice to meet you. This really isn't the time to talk though, my twin sister who I only met yesterday but nonetheless feel an incredibly strong connection to, is probably missing."

Another girl walks to the door with Will trailing behind her. This must be Alice. She also has long brown hair, though hers is wavier, and she has brown eyes like Sophie and Emily. "Emily is missing," she states.

"Right, figured that out already. I was just trying to convince your friend here," I roll my eyes at Sophie and she raises her arms in defence.

"Alright! I get it... Jeez..."

Will speaks up, "Well while you guys are arguing, Emily is only getting further away." He turns to me, "Where's Oscar?"

"I don't know... He disappeared too."

"Great. Our best fighter is missing just when we need him," Alice mutters.

"Yeah, well great. Too bad. Let's just look for them, now. This is important," I say.

"Right, do you have any idea where to start?" Sophie asks.

"Uhhh not really," I reply. "I was hoping you guys would know."

Sophie sighs, "I might be able to track her through telepathy. I'll be a few minutes hang on." She leaves the doorway, heading back into the house.

There's an awkward silence as Alice looks me up and down. I get the obvious feeling that she doesn't like me, and I don't stop to question why. Most people seem to hate me and have no reason for it anyway.

"So... I'm kind of still getting used to this whole power thing, but from what I understand, apart from Emily and I everyone only has one power and a weakness with that power, right?" I ask, trying to break the tension.

"Yeah," Will confirms. "So for example: my power is mental projection. I can project images, emotions, thoughts, et cetera, into people's heads. However I find this harder in crowds or with a lot of people around, because it is difficult to project effectively into one mind. Not all weaknesses make that much sense though. For example Alice's power is sonic scream, and that's weaker when she's near water; and Sophie's power is telepathy, and that's weaker at night."

Sophie pops back into the doorway, "She's somewhere west. I couldn't make a proper connection because I only just freaking met her. Also I couldn't get into Oscar's mind for some reason..." She frowns, clearly confused.

"Right. Well at least that's a start. We're heading west, see how we go from there. One more person we should bring though: Jenny. She might feel kind of left out, seeing as she was the one who actually brought Emily here."

Right. Jenny. She was the girl with blonde pigtails.

I follow Alice, Sophie and Will through a small forest-y thing, and emerge in a picture-perfect countryside, though it is only about 50 square metres (that's 538 square feet for you non-metric users) until you reach the sea, or the other edges of the small forest. Dead in the centre of this area is a quaint cottage, complete with a gently puffing chimney.

"Jenny actually lives here?" I ask, slightly astonished. It seemed so old-fashioned and strange, but I suppose Jenny does seem to be a bit different to everybody else.

"It sort of suits her power of invisibility," Alice says.

"Yeah, and she's probably still asleep even though it's 12:00. She always sleeps in, which also sort of suits the fact that her powers are weakened during the day," Sophie laughs. As she says this, Jenny skips out of her house.

"I actually am awake for the record," she says smugly. "But what are you guys doing at my house? And why is Karina here?" She turns to me, "No offense."

It's hard not to take offense. After feeling so unaccepted throughout my life, she's sort of just bringing back those feelings.

"Emily and Oscar are missing," Alice states.

"Like: missing, missing," Sophie agrees. "I've managed to track Emily somewhere west, but I can't even get into Oscar's mind, I don't know what's going on."

"And you want me to go with you guys to find them, right? Cool, sounds fun! I'll meet you in the square in an hour, okay?" She runs back to her house and shuts the door.

"Well..." I say, "That was interesting..."
