Miss Missing You *LRH* (5 Seconds of Fanfiction: Book 1)

Harper Benjamin's and Luke Hemmings' love was written in the stars, at least that's what Luke thought. Then she betrayed him in the worst way and they broke up. It took awhile, but eventually he gets over her, meanwhile she regrets losing him every day. When they meet again for the first time in ages, Harper wants to make things right, but he could care less. How can she make him see that she's changed? Has she really? 2. Written In The Stars

"Can I ask you something Luke?" Harper asked, breaking the silence of the night. She lay on her back on the grass outside her house, staring up at the starry night sky. Her head was inches away from her boyfriend Luke's, but their bodies pointed in opposite directions. He heard her voice soft in his ear and turned to look at her. Her profile always made him catch his breath.

"Anything." he answered, keeping his voice soft as well. She hesitated before she asked her question, taking a deep breath and blinking several times before she let the words come out.

"Do you believe in...fate? Or maybe...destiny, I guess?"

"What do you mean?" he asked, not taking his eyes off her.

"Well..." she began, then shook her head. "...you know what? Nevermind. Forget it...it's silly."

"No." he responded gently. "Go on." She looked at him, staring into his soft blue eyes for a long moment. When she spoke again, she had almost forgotten her question.

"Like...what I mean is...do you believe that somehow...you and I were meant to be?" she asked, her eyes dropping from his a little. "Like...before you and I were even born...before we even met...we were destined to be a couple? Fated to be together, because that's the way the Big Man Upstairs wanted it to be?" She met his eyes again, expecting him to laugh or smile in an amused way, thinking how cute her silly ideas were. But instead he just held her eyes again, her words sparking a train of thought.

The truth was, he did believe they belonged together. It was like before he met her, he was missing something and he didn't even know it, then she waltzed into his life and suddenly he felt...whole. He felt happier. More hopeful. Like he was starting something new with her. Something spectacular. Something beautiful.

When he closed his eyes he saw her beautiful smile, bright and white and lovely. When he thought about the future, he couldn't picture himself with anybody else but her. She wasn't his first girlfriend, but when he pictured his exes in his future, it didn't feel right. Her, Harper Benjamin on the other hand, she'd be the future Mrs. Hemmings. Mrs. Harper Ashlyn Hemmings. He chuckled at the thought, deep down fearing that they wouldn't make it that far.

His eyes had drifted back to the sky above, to the vast expanse of darkness, dotted with little sparking dots, the moon glowing down on them, washing them in its pale white light.

"Luke?" Harper's voice brought him back to reality. "Did you hear me?"

"Yeah. I heard you." he answered, smiling a little. "You think we were, I dunno, written in the stars or something."

"Yeah." she looked away. "Silly, huh?"

"Actually..." he looked at her again. "...I kind of like that idea." Her eyes snapped back up to his. Had she heard him correctly?

    "You do?"

"I do." he assured. The hint of a smile played at her lips.

"Me too." she whispered. "But are you certain you feel that way?"

"Harper, when I think about the future I don't see myself with anyone else but you." Luke answered, thinking that statement spoke for itself. "Not anybody else. You." She felt her heart race as tears formed in her eyes.

"Why?" she squeaked, not meaning for her voice to be so high pitched. Luke stared at her. He had asked himself the same question before. Why her? Why not the others? What made her different? Well, for starters, she actually understands you. Luke thought. It was like they spoke the same language of music and comic books and video games. Plus when something went wrong in their relationship, she didn't blame everything on Luke. She owned up to her mistakes and worked to fix things. Because she cared. Because she was honest. And real. And beautiful. He thought. On the inside and outside.

He loved everything about her: from her long glisteny hair to her small little toes, from her flaws that made her unique to the insecurities that made her anxious. He loved her. He loved her. That was why. He had fallen for her. Hard. He hadn't really felt that feeling before, with any other girl, but with her, yes. Yes he had.

As this realization hit him, his breath caught in his throat.

    "Oh my gosh." he whispered.

    "What?" she asked.

"I..." he trailed off, not sure if he should tell her or not. What was holding him back? And what did he have to lose? Her, if she doesn't feel the same. he thought. But she thinks we're destined to be. If that's not indirectly saying 'I love you', what else does? "I love you." he blurted without a second thought, before he could convince himself otherwise. He stared right into her eyes and said it again, slower, more certain. "I love you." Yes. Those words sounded right to him, to her too. "I am in love with you Harper Ashlyn Benjamin. And who knows, maybe the Big Man Upstairs really did want us to end up together no matter what. Maybe we are written in the stars." She was crying now, tears streaming down her face.

"Why are you crying?" he whispered, hoping those were happy tears.

"Because I love you too." she answered. "I'm in love with you Luke Robert Hemmings." And with that, Luke pressed his lips against hers in a sweet, gentle kiss.

This memory hit Luke like a brick at the most unexpected moment.

He was onstage with his band 5 Seconds Of Summer and they were halfway through their song Beside You. During the first verse some fans had taken out their phones and were waving them in the air. There were thousands of people in that arena and almost everyone had their phones up. The multiple little white screens in the air glowing in the dark reminded him of the stars glowing in the night sky. He liked looking up at the night sky every now and again and whenever he did, it always reminded him of that same night. The night he first said the words 'I love you' to his girlfriend Harper.  She was his ex now, but sometimes he liked to remember her. Sometimes he liked to remember what they had. It was special, but now it was gone. He gripped the microphone with one hand and began to sing the next line.

"She sleeps alone; my heart wants to come home. I wish I was, I wish I was, beside you. She lies awake; I'm trying to find the words to say; I wish I was, I wish I was, beside you." And her face came back to him. Just after he pulled away from her lips that starry night they were kissing in the grass, she smiled at him. It was the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.

"I am in love with you Luke Robert Hemmings."
