How I Survived Freshman Year

My name is Briana to the government, Bri to my parents, goth girl to most. This is how I survived my freshman year in the American school system.

4. Land of the Hypocrites, Home of the Obese

The car ride to our new house was very interesting. We passed so many fast food places, I think I counted over a hundred from the airport to our street. When we finally got up the drive way, I looked around the neighborhood. It was sunny, with a little breeze going, and no one was outside.

I walked up the stairs. The hallway smelled wet, moldy, mildew. As if no one had opened the front door for a decade.

Since I was the oldest, I got to pick my room between the leftovers. Minus the one my dad and Holly had already claimed and moved some things into. I placed my underwear box, which claimed our rooms, on the floor in the center of the room.

This was the attic. It was dark up here, I loved it. Quiet too. And, there was a lock on the door, no little brothers to come into my room in the middle of the night. I looked out the window and noticed a tree branch hung in front of my window.
