18. Chapter 16

Alar was on the deck leaning on the ship rail and looking at the dark distance, a deep frown between his brows.

(I wonder if that unrightful king knows how to find the sword.) He clenched his fist (I'm not letting him get his bloody hands on it!)

"Alar?"

He turned and found Amaya standing next to him.

"You were deep in thoughts! I called you many times."

"What is it?"

"Nothing really, I just couldn't sleep and wanted to get some fresh air... I saw you standing here alone."

He turned his gaze to the dark distance ahead of him.

"I saw you fighting earlier, that was... amazing!" She paused, then continued "Iryn too, she was so cool! I wish I could fight like her..." She looked at the sparkling sea water under the moonlight.

Amaya lift her head and gazed at Alar's profile "I want to be stronger, can you help me?"

He turned his face and looked at her eyes, they were shining with determination.

"You know that Iryn was raised like a Troid, don't you?" He asked.

"I know"

Alar continued "Meaning, she started training the same time she learned how to walk."

Amaya's eyes widened, she didn't know that her friend was training for that long.

Alar noticed her surprise, he let out a small sigh and spoke again "Even if you want to start training, we are traveling and that's not possible."

"I can manage a time for training... I just don't know from where to start" said Amaya.

Alar looked at her for a moment "You have a bow and arrow right? If we weren't traveling and I was your training master, I would make you shoot 200 arrows everyday. But as I said many times, you don't need to fight, don't worry I can protect you."

"I don't want to be protected!" She said it louder than she intended, Alar's eyes went wide.

"I'm... sorry ... I just... don't want to be a burden, I want to be useful too..." She lowered her head.

Alar cupped her chin and lift her head, his facial expression softened "You're not a burden Amaya. But you're a stubborn girl"

Amaya felt the heat in her cheeks, she knew that her face became bright red, she averted her gaze from him in an attempt to hide her embarrassment.

Alar removed his hand from her chin and put it on her shoulder "Now, go to sleep, it's late."

Amaya nodded and walked away.

Alar let out a soft sigh and left the deck, he headed down to the cabins' level. He stopped in front of Iryn's cabin and knocked. She didn't reply so he opened the door.

Iryn was fast asleep, with some papers on top of her. He walked to her bed and took up the papers, one was an Orton map, and the other was the riddle translation. Alar folded the papers and put them on the nightstand. He put a blanket on Iryn. He sat on the bed edge and caressed her hair, softly twining her single silver hair lock.

"Father?" Said Iryn with a sleepy voice, trying to sit up.

Alar removed his hand from her hair "Ah... sorry I wake you up.."

"It's ok, I don't remember going to bed anyway. Is something the matter?"

Alar gazed at her for a while. She tilted her head to the side in confusion.

"If you... feel something weird... would you tell me?" Said Alar.

"That again?" she smirked at him but when she saw his serious expression, her smile vanished.

"Weird like what?" she asked.

"Anything abnormal... would you?" said Alar with his gaze fixed on her.

"Yes" she finally answered.

"Good" He stood up and turned to leave, he put his hand on the door's knob and looked over his shoulder "Good night Iryn".

He closed the door behind him.

Iryn woke up in the morning, put on her clothes and went out of the cabin. She stopped in front of Ruvel's door and knocked.

"You there?"

"Yes, come in" He answered from inside.

She opened the door and stepped inside the cabin. Ruvel was sitting on the edge of his bed, wrapping a bandage on his right hand with his already bandaged left hand.

"How are you feeling?" Iryn asked.

"I'm good, the wounds are closing" He finished bandaging his hand and stood up.

"I mean, yesterday's exhaustion..."

"Oh.. yeah I'm fine now. Thank you for your concern" He smiled.

"Does it ... happen to you every time you ... you know, use magic?" She asked.

"No.. actually, that was the first time. What I did yesterday needed a huge amount of energy. I wasn't strong enough so, the magic consumed me" he smiled wryly.

"So you mean... If you didn't stop..."

Ruvel smiled at her "Let's go" He opened the door and stepped outside, she followed him.

On the deck were Alar, Amaya, the captain, Vanya and some of the freed girls. The moment Ruvel showed, Vanya ran to him.

"Ruvel! How do you feel? You Ok?" Vanya asked in concern.

"I'm good Vanya don't worry."

"I thought we're going west to Janford or Waterlake or any town where humans live!" Amaya was speaking with the captain.

"No actually, we're heading east." said the captain.

Iryn joined the conversation "East? That's..."

"Eastcastle" Ruvel completed her sentence.

"As in the Sun elves land?" Amaya said in surprise.

"But, how about the girls that we freed? We should go to a human town, why on earth are we going to Eastcastle?" said Iryn.

"I was paid to carry them on my ship, I wasn't paid to go west." The captain smirked.

"YOU!" Iryn stormed towards him but Ruvel caught her arm and stopped her.

"It's ok Iryn. That was my fault, I guess" He looked at the captain with cold eyes.

"Can you change your destination?" Amaya asked helplessly.

"Sorry pretty, I can't change it, I have goods that needs to go to Eastcastle"

"It's ok, lets go to Eastcastle, and from there I'll find a ship going west to take the girls back" said Ruvel.

"I think that's the only solution we have now. Sorry girls, going home will take longer than we thought." said Iryn.

"Why you're this obsessed with those slaves?" Vanay asked Ruvel, she was annoyed.

"They are not slaves Vanya, they are free! I promised to help them and I have to fulfill my promise until the end."

Vanya sighed at his response.

"That's Eastcastle!" said the captain with a large grin splitting his face.

"We're here already?" Amaya was surprised.

"That's so soon! It looked more far on the map!" said Iryn.

"Well, you see, my baby girl is really fast! We'll arrive at the port in no time!" the captain's smiled widened. He was very proud of his ship.

"Then let's get ready for arrival." said Iryn and everybody went to there cabin to fetch their stuff.
