3. Messing Up

Doug's POV:

Evie met us in the nurse's office to see how bad it was. It was bad. It was really, really bad. The nurse, a robot named Baymax, said I had two broken ribs, a sprained wrist, a broken nose, and I was almost all black and blue. "How on earth were you able to get him all the way here?" he asked. Carlos shrugged. "Well, whatever you did, it did not cause any of his injuries. Do you know the names of the boys who attacked Doug?" asked Baymax. Evie was about to speak when I butted in. "Chad Charming is the only guy I recognized. I think I saw Ariel and Eric's son," I said uncertainty.

Baymax nodded. "Take Doug back to his dorm, Evie. Make sure he stays in bed," he said. Evie helped me to my feet and placed my arm around her shoulder for support. We struggled up the stairs and to my dorm. When we got there, Evie helped get me onto my bed. She grabbed some books from my bookshelf and set them next to me. "There. You're all set," she said. I blushed and looked down at my hands. "Thanks Evie. For everything," I said quietly.

She smiled. "No problem," she said softly. Then, she gave me a kiss on the cheek and left the room. I sat there, stunned. Evie had never even hugged me before, let alone kissed me on the cheek. I rubbed the spot where she kissed me and smiled. I grabbed a book and settled down to read it. I looked up when someone knocked on the door. "Come in," I said cheerfully. When Chad walked in, I immediately regretted it. "Hey. Can I uh, talk to you for a sec?" he asked nervously. I nodded.

He sat down on the end of the bed. "Look, I'm really, really so....." He started. I slammed my book shut and glared at him. "Don't you even think about it. A little sorry won't cut it. After you stopped being a jerk to Mal, Jay, Carlos, and Evie, I thought we could be friends again. I guess I was wrong. You'll always be a jerk," I snapped. Chad blinked rapidly and his eyes looked misty. "O..Okay. I get it. Sorry for bothering you," he said, his voice cracking. He got up and left, his head hanging down. I have to admit, I felt kind of bad. Chad doesn't try to apologize. Ever. I sighed and leaned my head against the wall. I'm such a screw-up.
