2. Helping Out

Evie's POV:
I sighed sadly and walked to my dorm. As soon as I walked in, Mal, Jay, and Carlos rushed up to me. "Did he ask you?" Jay asked excitedly. I shook my head. They all groaned. "I don't think he's ever going to," I murmured. Carlos rolled his eyes. "Of course he will. He's just scared," he assured me. I perked up. "Do you think so?" I asked hopefully. Carlos grinned. "I know so," he said. I smiled and gave him a hug. "Thanks, Carlos."

"Fairy Godmother said we could video chat our parents," Jay said. Carlos pulled out a laptop. "On it," he said. He began typing rapidly and our parents showed up on the screen. "Carlos! How is my little boy doing?" Cruella cackled. "I'm fine, mom," he grumbled. My mom showed up on the screen, along with Mal's mom and Jay's dad. "Hello, children," Maleficent said coldly. Mal sighed. "Hey mom," she said.

My mom, the evil Queen, made her way towards the front. "Hello, Evie. Is school going well?" she asked. No. I thought, Doug popping in to my head. "Yeah, every thing's great," I said, giving her my best fake smile. "That's good, I'm glad. Have you found yourself a Prince yet?" she said. My stomach twisted into a knot. Doug may not be the kind of Prince my mother wants, but he's a Prince to me. "I'm still waiting for him to make his move," I said sadly. Jafar, Jay's dad, sighed. "You'll never get him that way. Boys are fraidy-cats when it comes to girls," he said.

I sighed. "Here. Why don't you guys talk to your parents?" I said, handing the laptop to Jay. I walked towards the window and sat on the window sill. Leaning my head gainst the glass, I looked out into the distance where I could just barely see the Isle of the Lost through the dense storm clouds that had begun to form. I looked down into the courtyard. Doug was running from a group of boys. He looked afraid. I jumped to my feet and ran towards the door. "Guys, c'mon! Mal, bring your spellbook," I said. Mal grabbed the book and we all ran out to the courtyard. "Why are we.....Oh my gosh!!" Carlos exclaimed.

Doug was kneeling on the ground, his hands over his head for protection. The boys who had been chasing him were kicking and hitting him. His glasses had fallen off; one of the lenses was shattered. "Make it easy, make it quick. Give my enemy a good kick," Mal said, snapping her spell book closed. Suddenly, one of the boys doubled over, clutching his stomach. Then, all of them were being flung around this way and that. Doug was confused until he saw Mal and her spell book. I ran over to him and knelt down beside him. He was clutching his bleeding nose and he had a cut on his lip. Bruises were beginning to form on his arms, legs, and face. I held back tears and put a hand on his shoulders. "Are you okay?" I asked softly, handing him his broken glasses.

He put them on, wincing when they put pressure on his nose. "I'm used to it," he said. The spell wore off and one of the guys came to me. It was Chad. "Chad? How could you?!?! You were his friend!!!!!" I screamed, shoving him backwards. "I....I..." he stammered. I helped Doug to his feet and then gave Chad a satisfying slap across the face. He stood there, stunned. Then, his face turned beet red. "You little bit..." he started. I slapped him again and walked off with Doug. Doug looked at me, awed. "Wow," he said, grinning. I blushed and smiled at him.

Carlos put a hand on Doug's shoulder. "Come on. Let's get you to the nurse," he said. Doug nodded. He looked back and gave me a small wave. "Bye Evie," he said. I waved back. "Bye," I said softly.
