6. Chapter VI- Naieesha's Perspective, And A New Life

Something has happened. But what?

I had gone out to try and find small insects for the pups to eat, when out of nowhere appears five hunters, carrying what seemed like a giant spider's web.

All at once I know these are the hunters that killed Azubuike. Now they have come to kill me.

I start to run frantically back to my home, but one hunter jumped on me with the spider's web.

I am using all my strength to try and break free, clawing at the sand, kicking and biting the hunter. But they seem larger, and stronger, than life.

When the hunters lifted the spiders web, I tumbled into it like a trapped fly, but I am determined not to give up the fight.

Now, in the present, I am growling my name and calling to my pack with several echoing howls. Awoo! Awoo!

I know they soon hear me, because in the distance I can see the pack running toward me, and howling in unison.

The hunters start to run faster.

Panicked, I try to claw through the spider's web, but only break about three strands.

The pack is getting closer now, the hunters galloping like thirsty gazelles.

A few hyenas even bite their heels, and I hear tiny yelps, like us.

Then, Kaiani appears, moving her massive jaw up and down through the web.

A hole appears in the web. It gets bigger and bigger, almost large enough for me to slip out.

A few more bites. I am almost free!

Alas, one of the hunters turns around, pointing a long, shiny black thing at Kaiani.

A loud noise. And Kaiani is bleeding from her muzzle, yet still keeps running, still trying to bite.

The long shiny black thing is pointed lower at Kaiani's leg.

Another deafening noise. Kaiani stumbles, and is unable to get up.

The pack is too tired to run any further.

All hope is lost.

I bellow out one last mournful howl to Kaiani and the pack, and they howl in return.

Where are they taking me.

Much too soon, the hunters stop when they reach what looks like a giant, mechanical bird. The back of the bird opens.

The hunters toss me inside, and the door closes.

It is dark.

I finally escape from the spider's web and paw at the door. But the structure is too strong.

The ground starts to rumble, like the hungry growl of the lion. I feel as if I'm being lifted off the face of the Earth.

I know these hunters are not going to let me free, but I will get home.

Somehow. Someday.
