Hyena Child

In the hot, wandering wilderness of Africa, we find Naieesha, a twelve year old girl who has been raised by a pack of hyena's her entire life.
When Thomas Walters, a man on safari, discovers this girl, he captures her and brings her home to his wealthy family in New York.
Things aren't always what they seem.
Lost and alone, Naieesha's behaviour is intolerable. She fights, eats with her hands, and will do anything to get back home to her beloved pack. Both her and The Walter's family are at their wits end. Can Lena Van Helsing, a teacher for the deaf and misunderstood, step in and save the day?

5. Chapter V - Thomas' Perspective

Day three of the expedition. I have told all the men my plan to capture the girl.

Now, all is ready with the five of us holding a net, crouching in front of the hyena's den.

No member of the pack has come out for three days. But I expect the girl will have to soon, if she does not want to starve. Aha! The girl slowly emerges out into the African sunlight. Then, all at once, us men start to charge towards her.

She looks up, terror in her eyes. Immediately she tries to scurry back toward the den, but in time I jump with the net on top of her. The other four men are trying to hold down the sides, but its a hard struggle. Kicking. Screaming. Biting. This girl will do anything to try and get away. For one moment I consider letting her free, but I know I must take her to back to New York with me. What kind of life will she have if I don't?  With a mighty heave as the men lift up the net, the girl tumbles into the center, glaring back at me with large, angry eyes. "All right, men, forward!"We are moving as quickly as possible to get back to the plane. If this girl escapes, there is no hope to capture again, with the amount of aggression she has shown. Now she is barking, just like the hyena, except it's coming out in one word, "Nai!" "Nai! "Nai!""What the blazes is she shouting, Thomas?" asks Lyle, the man carrying the left side of the net, I am carrying the right. "I'm not positive, but I think that could be her name, lad.""Nai?" What kind of a bloody name is Nai?" I sighed, transferring into my own thoughts. "That is her name," I tell myself, "But not just Nai." "She shall be called Naieesha Lucy Walters."
