7. Chapter 7

For a warm up, we got to run around the whole entire Dauntless area. Four than showed us a few punches and kicks we have to learn, we practiced that for a bit before moving onto guns. We all pick up and gun and stand before a dummy, I hit the dummy a few times before turning to watch Tris and see her missing the target. "Statistically speaking, you should have hit the target at least once by now, even by accident" Will tells him, "Will. Shut up" I say before going back to shooting at my dummy. Four leads us on a other run before stopping by a Dauntless guard, "Hey. What have you got?" Four asks him, "Factionless. Not doing anything" the guard says. I feel someone stand behind me, "Check it out, Stiff. That's gonna be your new family" Peter tells me as I look over the group of factionless, "Go say hi" he says.

We continue to practices blocking and attacking on each other, I work with Tris for a time before moving to Christina. "First jumper, in the ring. Last jumper, time to fight" Eric shouts out, I watch as the last jumper, Molly steps up on the mat. Molly was strong, big and tall, while Tris was small, weak and tiny. Tris steps onto the mat and faces Molly, "How long do we fight for?" Molly asks, "Til one of you can't continue" Eric tells them, "Or one of you concedes" Four adds in. "According to the old rules. The new rules: no one concedes" Eric corrects Four, "You really want to lose them on their first fight?" I question Eric's judgments. "A brave man never surrenders" Eric says, "Lucky for you, those weren't the rules when we fought" Four says as he comes beside me. I look at Four for a few minutes before turning back to the fight that is to take place, "You'll be scored on this, so fight hard" Eric tells them. I watch as both girls get in their positions, "Go!" Eric shouts as both girls were hesitate. Molly heads towards Tris but Tris backs off, suddenly stepping off the mat, everyone was quiet as we watch Tris look around at us. "Don't be scared, Tris" I encourage my sister, she nods her head and gets back onto the mat. Molly swings a punch and Tris dodges, "Come on, Tris" I mumble. I felt someone step beside me, I glance to the figure to see it was Four. I turn back to the fight to see Tris get a punch in the jaw, I take a step forward, my instinct to protect my younger sister, but a hand grabs my arm and holds me in place. Warmth floods throughout my body and I knew it was Four who was holding me back. I watch as Molly easily knocks Tris to the floor and Four grips tightens, "Evie" he warned me, I look at him for a split second before turning back to the fight. Tris slowly climbs to her feet but Molly punches her back down, ending the fight. I rip my arm out of Four's grip and grab an ice pack before helping Tris sit on the mat and hold the ice to her jaw, "You did great" I whisper to her. Tris shakes her head and looks down, "Hey. It was your first fight, don't beat yourself up" I tell her and she gives me a one arm hug.

"Alright, guys, over here. Listen up" Eric says and we both walk over to join him and the initiates, "Know what this board is? It's your life. We grade you everyday, if you're still in the red by the end of the first stage, you're out" Eric informs us as names appear on the board. I watch until my name comes up, I'm below the red line with a score of 26. I watch as Tris name shows a score of 32.

"I'm never gonna make it" Tris tells us as sit on our beds, "Yes, you are" Christina says. "I'm the weakest one here" Tris says, "Then you'll be the most improved" I tell her. "You're my sister. You have to say that" Tris says, "So what if I'm your sister. It's the truth" I tell her and we smile at each other. "If they cut me I think my parents would take me back" Al informs us, "No, it doesn't work like that. Even if they wanted to, their faction wouldn't allow it" Will informs him, "Even if our parents would take us back...we wouldn't belong there anymore" I tell them. "This is getting depressing" Christina points out, "Yeah" Will agrees. "You know what we should do? Shopping and tattoos" Christina suggests, the boys agree to getting tattoos but not to the shopping. So us girls decided to do a little shopping, before meeting up with them at the tattoo parlor.
