Jimmy saw his new friend as he walked down the corridor standing against the radiator.

Hi said Jimmy; as he caught up with him then the two of them stood in line whilst they waited to go in the dining hall. There wasn’t many left now as they were the last to go in.

They took up a tray and some cutlery there were some small glasses and Jim passed one to his friend as they walked along the line.

“Are you the last the dinner lady asked?

“Yes said Jimmy there is no more waiting outside.”

The dinner lady filled both their plates with cheese pie then they got some chips and beetroot. For pudding they were serving coconut cake and pink custard.

They sat at the table discussing the lesson and Jimmy told him about captain cook.

Sydney told him about his science lesson. How they had made distilled water using a pan filled with water filling a bottle half full of tap water then joining it together with another bottle with a bent neck. This bottle stood outside of the pan when the water inside the pan was heated it created condensation and the water inside of the bottle in the pan was then transferred into the empty bottle. This was now turned into distilled water.

“What is distilled water used for asked Jimmy inquisitively?

It is used for watering plants; in cars, drinking water to remove the impurities.

“Is this what you would like to be when you leave school Sydney?

“No I want to be a doctor.”

“My adoptive parents both work in medicine.

“Do they really?

“Yes my father; he corrected himself and said my adopted father is a consultant surgeon at Preston Hospital in North Shields and my adopted mother a physiotherapist.

“Are they rich?

“I guess so, but they do not treat me any differently to the way my real parents did.

“You will have to come to tea at my house.”

“Yes I would like that; and you will have to come to mine.”

“Where do you live?

“Number twelve Henry Street.”

“Well I will ask my parents tonight because they work late; you could come on Saturday if it is alright with your mam and dad?

“I will ask them.

Both tucked into their coconut cake before going out to play. The bell would ring to end the lunch break in twenty minutes so they hurried into the school yard.
