The New Tynesiders - Little Town - Book 2

"The New Tynesiders" follows the story of Akan Badoe; a Ghanaian immigrant who comes to settle in the North East along with many other ethnic groups. His struggle for acceptance in a racially bigoted Britain are documented. The story also follows young Jimmy Connors Hepple the boy from the "Little Town" story who is adopted by an eminent surgeon and his wife after a tragic accident where both his parents are killed in a gas explosion.
Jimmy meets Sydney a young black boy and they become friends. Jimmy the adventurer wants to work in the Arctic like his hero Sir Robert Falcon Scott. Sydney a doctor. The story takes you on a journey through the boys childhood into adulthood where colour, creed,or religion have no boundaries. The New Tynesiders will take you back from 1948- 1966.

Jenny and Jeff set off for the Westpac Stadium along with many others there was a huge car park but Jenny spotted a gap and drove into it. Jeff got out and opened the door for Jenny.

“A gent too; what a man I have.”

She took his hand and led him to the ticket office where Jeff paid for them then they walked up the steps and into the stadium she found her friends Marcy Gray and Sophie Fisher. They stood up and looked at Jeff who was a good three feet taller than them.

They leaned and whispered into Jenny’s ear.

“You were not kidding when you said he was beefy. The man is a giant Jenny and right handsome too.”

“You are not going to believe this but he plays rugby for Leeds Rhino’s in England.

“It’s like winning the lottery.

Do you know any of the Wellington lions squad Jeff asked Macy; thinking her friend might have been jesting with them until he said that he’d played against a few on the British Lions tour. Joe Blackwell, Hooker Dean Coles, Reggie Goods, Victor Vito, Tana Umaga, Matty Proctor, Mark Reddish, Brad Shields, and Jeffery Toomaga.

The girls were amazed; that they had rugby British Lion star sitting right beside them. They asked for his autograph. Jeff Kindly obliged them.

Today Wellington Lions were playing the Hurricanes.

The game got underway the Hurricanes kicked the ball and Tana Umaga caught it and ran straight into Joe Blackwell, he backed the ball to Reggie Goodes it was passed to Matty proctor who passed to Jeffery Toomaga away he went supported by Tana Umaga, James Broadhurst went for a tackle but Jeffery had passed it to his team mate who went down over the line just outside the posts for a try. Brad stuck the conversion away so Wellington was off the mark with seven points.

The hurricanes tightened up the back row and the game went back and forth until Otere Black got a penalty kick and converted.

Not to be deterred  Welling scored three more tries before the half time whistle. they were leading 22-3 “would you ladies like to come with me a moment said Jeff as he made his way to the Wellington Changing room changing rooms where Jeff introduced himself and all the player came and shook his hands. These are friends of mine and this is my girl friend Jenny Marsh. Can you all join us later in the lounge for drinks asked Reggie Goodes?

“What do you say girls?

“Yes please said the girls.”

“Thanks lads said Jeff then led the girls back to their seats.

“Wow! I cannot believe we are actually going to have drinks in the players lounge with the best rugby players in New Zealand; thank you so much this is a life time dream come to for us.”
