The New Tynesiders - Little Town - Book 2

"The New Tynesiders" follows the story of Akan Badoe; a Ghanaian immigrant who comes to settle in the North East along with many other ethnic groups. His struggle for acceptance in a racially bigoted Britain are documented. The story also follows young Jimmy Connors Hepple the boy from the "Little Town" story who is adopted by an eminent surgeon and his wife after a tragic accident where both his parents are killed in a gas explosion.
Jimmy meets Sydney a young black boy and they become friends. Jimmy the adventurer wants to work in the Arctic like his hero Sir Robert Falcon Scott. Sydney a doctor. The story takes you on a journey through the boys childhood into adulthood where colour, creed,or religion have no boundaries. The New Tynesiders will take you back from 1948- 1966.

When their love making was over both of them lay back breathless until Jeff asked what time the rugby started.

It was quarter past five when both Jeff and Jenny came down stairs. The coffee was still hot in the percolator so Jeff poured them a cup then got stuck into the sandwiches that Jenny had made him. Can you stay over tonight she asked?

“Yes but Martyn needs me back tomorrow.”

“There will always be next week end Jeffery.”

“Will there he asked?

“Oh yes my love, you are definitely a keeper; you are not getting away from me.”

“Who said I was going anywhere.”

You must have a radio at the station do you?

“Yes we do.

“Well look about you Jeff; I have CB Radio and we can talk as long as we want.

“Brilliant Jenny, it gets pretty lonely of a night time so it will be lovely to hear your voice.”

“What is your handle?”

“Handle?

“Yes your call sign.”

Oh that; it’s “Rhino Tackle” what is yours?

“Scrum Down”, I talk with friends who go to the rugby games. You will be meeting them tonight. “Wait until they see you they are going to die with envy I tell you.”

Wait a minute she said as she picked up the CB “hello Scrum Down here calling “Between the Sticks” come on!

“Hello “Scrum Down” are you going to the ball game tonight over.”

“I sure am; and I’m packin’ beef too.”

“Look forward to meeting the bull you’ve got; see you soon over.”

“Will do; over and out.”

“Jeff fell about laughing at the thought of being compared o a lump of beef.”

“I’m just going to fix my hair won’t be long; help your self to coffee.”

Jeff took his mug then refilled it then turned on the radio he looked for a country music station and left it on. Merle Haggard was singing“Okie from Muskogee”

 And Jeff was joining in. he was a big country music fan; he had huge collection of records at home; everything from Hank Williams to Slim Whitman.

Jeff’s deep baritone voice boomed out as he danced along to the record.

Jenny heard him and came down she joined in with him.

“You like country music too said Jeff?

“I sure do cowboy.”

“We are going to get along just fine; Jenny you know that.
