Now you bloody well listen here Mr Tengku, We have a state of emergency here; and I have been instructed to commission anyone or anything at my disposal now do you wish to see the letter I have authorising me to do so.

No sir, the hotel is at your disposal. How many bedrooms does the hotel have?

All together 400 rooms but we have 289 in use at the moment Sir.

“I want the hotel cleared by six o’clock this evening. Only my nursing staff is allowed use of the rooms. Anyone who isn’t a doctor or nurse tell them to get the hell out immediately. I do not care if they are sultans, kings, or bloody Ali Baba and his forty thieves get them out. Am I clear on that Mr Tengku?”

“Perfectly Sir.”

“Good now you sir will help any way you can understood; I want food and water for 400 people by seven o’clock this evening. How am I going to cater for 400 people? I don’t know and don’t care how you do it hire anyone; beg borrow or steal if you have to; but these patients are going to be looked after do you understand?

“Yes Sir,”

Good, now what are you waiting for man, get on with it I have patients dying as we speak. “I am on it Sir.”

“Thank you and good bye.”

Michael went to join his wife in the cafeteria and had a cheese and ham sandwich and a cup of very strong coffee. Michael went on to explain how he had commissioned the Grand Hyatt Hotel. Can you organise the army to move patients that can be and leave the others for now Alicia?

“Yes, I can do that.”

I need meals brought from the hotel to here to feed the patients. “We have one hundred and seventy patients to feed at seven o’clock so I suggest everyone grab an hour before we all collapse.

Michael and his wife found the room that had been allocated for them. Both of them had been sleeping at the hospital since their arrival. The room had a desk and chair and two single beds.

Michael lay down on the pillow and was asleep in five minutes’

Pat lay down as well and sleep got the better of her too. She had not slept for some twenty hours and was exhausted.

If it were not for the sister waking them at seven o’clock they would have slept on.

Michael woke with a start; it took him a few seconds to orientate himself; he got up from the bed, put on his shoes then put on his white coat with his name tag on it and took out his stethoscope and placed it around his neck then headed towards the ward.
