Michael asked Ralph Mason to join him in theatre. Michael put on his gown then a white bandanna. He scrubbed up then put on a pair of surgical gloves as did Ralph.

His nursing staffs were ready.

“Alright sister, please bring in the first patient Michael viewed the X-rays of the young boy who not only had multiple fractures of both legs but had internal bleeding from a ruptured spleen. The anaesthetist put the boy to sleep; and so the work began repairing victim after victim. Sydney, who had slept, came into theatre ready to assist.

Ralph Mason had been in theatre for over nine hours so Michael ordered him to take a break. Sydney stepped in and watched as Michael went about his work until Michael asked him to close up.

Sydney took the needle and stitched up the leg from thigh to lower knee where it had been shattered by falling debris. Michael had inserted three pins through the femur and repaired the broken patella.”

In the theatre next door the neurosurgeons were working on the head injuries.

Many of the patients had been injured with flying glass from skyscrapers; there were many who had lost an arm or leg. Some had fragments of glass embedded in their bodies. They had to be removed very carefully or the patients would bleed out.

After being in surgery for over twenty four hours straight Michael had to step out

and take a break. He left Ralph and Sydney in charge whilst he sought his wife and Alicia.

He went to his wife who was tending to a patient who was dying she sat and held the young girls hand as she slipped away. There had been many like this young girl and a lot of the nurses were visibly shaken by the loss of life.

Michael got them all together and told them that they could not save everyone.

It is a fact of life. Those of you who have not had a break since I got here follow me.

“You too darling he said to his wife as the porters came and removed the dead girl’s body and another patient was brought in. There was no time to change bedding; life was more important at this time.

It was an endless conveyor belt of bodies.

By the end of the forth day Michael and the team had lost count of the patients they had cured and the wards were now full. Michael then went around every patient assessing those who could be moved.

“Sydney get the Grand Hyatt on the phone for me would you, and you tell them we are commissioning the hotel to use as an emergency hospital.”

“They have beds, food, and water which we need and I intend to use them.”

The Hotel manager came on the phone and told Michael he could not commission the hotel as it belonged to the sultan of Brunei.

Excuse me said Michael taking the phone from Sydney.

“Who am I speaking with?

“Wan Tengku"
