No-one spoke they knew what was expected of them; they had volunteered and they were there to take orders and help in any way that they could.
Once again thank you all. We will be landing in approximately 16 hours.
Has everyone had something to eat and drink? A senior nursing sister stood up to tell Doctor Connors that they had received refreshments. Michael returned to the front of the plane; he checked with the cabin crew to see if there were any more messages for him. Sidney had been in touch with the cabin crew taking his friend Jimmy to Antarctica. He spoke with him briefly and filled him in on what had happened and that his parents were on their way to Kuala Lumpur with his mother. Jimmy wished him well and told him to be careful.

The Hercules landed in New Zealand earlier than expected Jimmy had told Martyn and Jeff about the earthquake in Malaysia and that his parents were flying out there as they were speaking. Jimmy asked at the airport if they could connect them with the 737. Once he got through he told his parents to be careful and that he hoped to see them soon. “I love you both he said then hung up”.
Jimmy went back to the Hercules to collect the baggage and the equipment needed for the expedition when everything was loaded the waited until the ski plane landed then loaded the plane then got in. they asked the pilot how long it would take to reach the Scott- Amundsen station?
“We could make it about five hours; even four depending on the weather.
“What is the forecast?
Favourable I think.
“Good, let’s hope we can do it in four hours that will give me time to catch something for dinner tonight.”
The plane got clearance to take off and it taxied down the runway then was up in the air it banked left then straightened out before the landing gear was put away.
Jimmy had not slept since leaving Sheffield so he got his head down; you didn’t need to tell Jeff to sleep he was snoring away within twenty minutes after the plane took off. Martyn went up front to the pilot who was called Peter Wilson.
“How are we doing Pete?
“The pilot said he was making very good time and that it looked like he could do the run in two hours instead of three.
“Good man.” I will buy you a pint when we get back in six months.”
Don’t forget as I won’t he said laughing.
“I won’t
