The nurse came back to find the Levis folded neatly on the chair beside the bed.

Kevin Bruce had a big smile on his face. He was showing a nice pair of gums as his false teeth had fallen out when he fell and someone had handed them in when the ambulance brought him to hospital. They sat in a glass of sterilised water by the bed in the bay.

Michael quickly did the reports then looked at his watch it was now six o’clock, his son would be on his way now he thought. He went to his office and removed his white coat then put on his brown suede jacket. He placed his stethoscope in his briefcase along with more paper work before handing over to the night staff.

Even though it had been a relatively easier day than one he was used to he was tired.

He walked into the car park where his red triumph spitfire was then opening the door he got in and made the journey back home.

Pat I’m home he shouted; as he took off his brown coloured leather soled brogues.”

His feet felt incredibly lighter without them on.

“I’m in the garden love;

Michael slide the patio window along then stepped out into the garden. Pat had cut the lawn and was busy weeding in the flower beds.

“I’m just planting a few Pansy’s and marigolds.”

“It looks really nice Darling; can I make you a cup of coffee?

“I would love one Michael; would you?

Michael turned then went back inside the kitchen then filled up the kettle and lit the gas with pilot lighter attached to the cooker. Michael went into the cupboard and took out the large metal tin of Nescafe using the end of the spoon he removed the lid and spooned the coffee into the mugs then added the milk.

Patricia heard the whistle on the kettle and came in doors after she had removed her gardening shoes at the door.
