“That’s a lovely name is she foreign?”

“Yes her father is councillor Akan Badoe do you know him?

“Yes, I have met him; he comes around at least once a month to my home in Coquet Avenue”.

“Do you and your wife not have any reservations about your son seeing a black girl?

“No; why should I?

“Sorry I meant no offence Michael its jut that you know mixed marriages have it hard is all I’m saying.”

“Yes I understand perfectly. Thank you for lunch.”

 “Michael I’m sorry.”

Michael stormed out of the canteen shaking his head. In the seven years that he’d known Jackie he would never have guessed that she was colour prejudiced.

Michael got back to his office where his secretary told him that there had been a call for him from his son.

“Did he leave a message July?

“Yes, he said tell my father that I love him and that I will call when I reach New Zealand.

“Thank you July he said with a big smile on his face.” Jimmy had made his day.

Michael checked on Mrs Oliver after checking the results of her blood test.

“Hello Mrs Oliver; it’s Doctor Connors. I have good news for you; you haven’t had a heart attack you just had a faint. I need you to reduce your salt intake which is causing your high blood pressure levels.”

“I am going to discharge you as soon as your daughter can come for you alright?

“Yes, thank you Doctor.”

“You will still need to see your GP though so he can keep a check on you.

“I will Doctor.”

“Now you take it easy in future; bye.”

“Bye Doctor.”

“Right nurse who’s next?

Well we have a young lady with a sprained foot in bay one and an old gentleman who has fallen and fractured his left arm.

“Do we have X-rays for both patients nurse?”

“Yes Doctor Connors, I will go and get them now.

After checking both X-rays on the lit screen on the wall it was confirmed that in fact both patients had broken bones and would need to be plastered.

Michael pulled the screen around the young girl and then told her that she had broken her foot and that it would have to be put in plaster.

“Where were you when the accident occurred, Miss Adams?

“I was skating in Whitley Bay Ice Rink when I fell over.”

“Bad luck for you then now we are going to have to cut those Jeans off I’m afraid so I will just get the nurse.

As soon as the doctor left the bay the girl undid the waist button and slid the jeans off.
