“Yes it’s 2576641.

“We will call her now and tell her that you are going to be admitted alright.

“Yes thank you doctor.”

The nurse came in and took the blood samples and Doctor Connor asked if she could be moved to the ICU.

“Yes Doctor; right away. The nurse rang for a porter to take Mrs Oliver to ICU then she was made comfortable and asked if she would like a cup of tea.

“Yes please.”

Do you take sugar?

“Two thank you”.

After Doctor Michael Connors attended to a boy with a head wound that needed a few stitches, and a girl who had been bitten by a neighbour’s dog, when her ball had gone into the garden; Michael headed to the canteen for lunch.

Michael sat with a colleague from the X-ray department Jackie Bell. Jackie had worked at the hospital for more than thirty years. She was thinking of retiring and buying a house and running a little farm in Northern France. I’m sick of the rat race she would say I need to get away.

Michael tucked into a ham and tomato sandwich that his wife had made for him. She had also wrapped a piece of Battenberg cake for him and an orange to eat.

He bought himself a fresh cup of coffee for himself and one for Jackie as they sat and chatted.

“How’s that son of yours doing Michael is he still at University?

“No actually he’s on his way to Antarctica this afternoon to do some research on bird migration and fish population.

“Too bloody cold for me I’m afraid,; I prefer the warm climate.”

“I do too, said Michael as he sipped his tea. Jimmy has been an adventurer since we adopted him.”

“You know he is so clever he made himself over twenty thousand pounds from making and selling his own designs of bird boxes, Milk bottle, and letterbox holder’s and a snow shovel that could clear a path in minutes. He used to make an absolute fortune from collecting empty bottles and news papers. All carried on a barrow he made himself.

“He’s one clever boy or should I say young man now?

“You know I wish I had been as enterprising as him at his age.

“You’re really proud of him aren’t you?

“Yes I am; he adores Patricia and won’t have a thing said about her either.”

“I’m sure he loves you just as much I know our Robert was all for me growing up but as the years went on he grew more towards his father. Then the love of his life came and stole him away from us.

“Yes I know what you mean Jimmy met a girl the other night; in fact they knew each other from way back but last night Patricia and I saw that look in his eyes it was the same look I had in mine when I first met Patricia.

“That’s Lovely what do they call her.”
