“We will fly across Greece, Egypt, and Ethiopia, and then we turn left across the Indian Ocean, to Australia then land in New Zealand said Martyn.”

“What is our ETA Marty said Jeff?

“We should reach New Zealand around four thirty tomorrow; if we get a good tail wind and good weather we could do it by three o’clock.”

How long will we be in New Zealand asked Jimmy?

“About four hours, so you won’t have time to sight see said Martyn.”

“I wanted to call someone said Jimmy;

“Aye up Marty said Jeff in his Yorkshire accent; he’s got a woman in tow here.”

“Come on then lad tell us all?

“Well she’s tall; very long legged and beautiful what more can I say.”

“What’s her name and telephone number shouted Jeff.

“Bugger off Jeff; she wouldn’t look at you twice.”

“People like my rugged looks; what you on about.”

Jeff was a big lad; he was a prop forward for Leeds Rhino’s he had been given special dispensation to come on this expedition from his club.

You could tell right off he was a sportsman his nose had been broken and he had a couple of scars over his eyebrows.

He looked more like a heavyweight boxer though than a rugby player; he must have weighed about seventeen stone he was lean and muscular. He stood six feet five in stocking feet. Martyn was from Jarrow but spoke without a Geordie accent; he was a former Royal Marine Sergeant and had been all over the world.

He said mixing with lads from all over the country had given him a refined accent.

Martyn was six feet one and about twelve stone. His blue eyes and blonde hair and dashingly good looks made him popular with women wherever he went.

“What’s this lady of yours called then asked Martyn?”

“They call her Eliza.”

“Nice name too said the lads and what does she do?

“She is training to be a physiotherapist with my mother in Gosforth.

“We should be alright for medical supplies then said Martyn.”

“Yes; my mother packed everything but the kitchen sink.”

“Good man because I’m sure we will need it out there because once we land there’s only the three of us for six months. It would have to be a real emergency to get the plane to come back out as it costs hundreds of dollars in fuel.

The University in Durham are funding this trip so we need to get as much data as possible. Hopefully next year we me get out here again.

“So what’s the story on you guy’s then asked Jimmy do you have girlfriends?

“We both have sort of casual relationships; we are not ready for settling down yet said Jeff.”

“Well I just met this girl, but I knew her some years ago when we met at a friend of mines birthday party.

“Well there’s still hope for me then said Jeff laughing.”
