“I know Jimmy I remember she said as her hand touched his Jimmy turned then drew her towards him and gently kissed her. She wrapped her arms around him and held him for what seemed like an eternity.

I won’t be back for six months Eliza;  but I will write you if you give me your address. “Can you not call me?

I don’t think there’s a phone line in the Arctic Eliza just radio communication.

Jimmy gave Eliza some paper and she wrote down her address and phone number.

“I must go Jimmy; I have work in the morning and I have reports to finish as part of my final exam.”

Have you got a car?

“No, I got a taxi here.”

“I will drive you home then in my car; it’s a bit of a banger but it goes.”

“Thank you; that would be nice.”

“Come on I will tell mam that I’m dropping you off.”

“Won’t be long mam; just dropping Eliza home.”

Eliza thanked Pat and Michael for inviting her to dinner then put on her shoes and walked down the path and opened the wrought iron gate.

“Sorry about the mess in here said Jimmy as he scooped up his books and paper work and placed them on the back seat so Eliza could get in.

Jimmy turned the key in the ignition and the car barked and growled but it started.

Jimmy drove through the town then into Newcastle and took the turn off for the coast road.

“Why haven’t you got your self a car yet?

“I haven’t even had a lesson yet.”

“It’s better than waiting around for buses.”

“My father has been dropping me off but I do plan to get a car of my own once I have qualified. My father said he would teach me to drive.”

They passed the three sisters flats on the coast road then headed past Formica Ltd and Commercial Plastics. The ruin of the Old Mill could be seen on the left as they took a right hand turn that would take them to North Shields.

“There you are safe and sound “My Lady.”

“Thank you she said then leaned across and kissed Jimmy softly o the lips before getting out. Jimmy wound down the window before sticking out and arm and waving as he pulled away.

Eliza smiled to herself as she turned the key and went into the house.

When Jimmy returned he took off his boots then came into the living room where his father and mother were sitting watching television.

“You got Eliza home alright then said his mother with a smile.”

“Yes,”
