Jimmy couldn’t keep his eyes off the girl as she removed her shoes then walked barefoot into the kitchen.

“Please take a seat at the dining table he said as he pulled out a chair for her.

Thank you Jimmy she said.”

“You know me he said; have we met?

“Yes but it was a long time ago now.”

Jimmy was wracking his brain trying to think where he had seen this woman before but nothing was coming to mind.

“It was at Sydney Ahomet’s party; I promised to meet you.

“Eliza Badoe he whispered; you sure have grown up.”

“So have you Jimmy and I’m sorry.”

“Sorry for what?

“For not coming to the pier.”

“Yes. I wondered why you didn’t come.”

“Well I couldn’t come because my father had organised for my mother and I to go out that afternoon.”

“Well I’m glad that you didn’t come really.”

“What meant was I am glad because you are here now and maybe we might not have met again after that afternoon on the pier.”

Eliza looked at Jimmy and though how handsome he was now; then saw the bear claw on the gold chain around his neck.

“Would you like some wine Eliza? said Pat as she put out the bowl of salad then gave her a plate with salmon and some sliced boiled egg. Please help yourself to some salad.

“Thank you I would love some wine; I left a bottle in the passage when I was taking off my shoes.”

“I will get it said Jimmy as he got up from his seat and went down the passage to get the wine.”

“I think he likes you said Pat smiling.”

“Do you think so Mrs Connor’s?”

“Pat please we are not at work now.

“So you work with my mother Eliza?”

“Yes; I am training to be a physiotherapist.”

“Well my mother will teach you all you need to know I’m sure.

Jimmy opened the wine and poured Eliza and his mother a glass then he went to the fridge and pulled out a can of shandy; “you don’t mind do you; I don’t drink wine.”

Eliza smiled then tucked into her salmon. “This is lovely she said; my father would love this.”

“Wait until you see what we have lined up for pudding.

“We have some chicken and rice to eat first.

“I am struggling with this Pat, I do not eat that much you know.
