The boys had nodded off by eight and Michael and Pat spent the last few hours with Harry and June.

Will you come over again said Harry to his son in-law? Maybe you can come over and stay with us. We will see said Harry but for now we must get you to the airport.

“You all get in the car there’s something I must get first.

Pat woke the boys’ then they got themselves washed and ready to leave.

Pat and her mother sat in the six seated people carrier with the boys’ and Harry and Michael sat up front. Everybody buckled up.

“Yes dad shouted Pat as harry pulled away from the garage and out of the gates.

Jimmy looked back as the two gates closed and wondered whether or not he would ever see the house again. It had been a fabulous holiday.

He got to meet a Prime Minister and the President of the United States and been on many TV shows, not many people could say they had done that.

When the car reached the airport terminal Jimmy and Sydney got their cases out of the boot Pat hugged her mother and father as Michael got the other cases out.

Well boys’ have a pleasant trip home and I hope to see you again next year.

Thank said Jimmy as he kissed his Grandma; then shook the hand of his Granddad.

They were waving as they were walking towards the door. Harry shouted at Jimmy to come back.

Jimmy left the case and ran back to his grandfather.

“I nearly forgot to give you this; now I want you to promise me you won’t open it until the plane takes off do you hear?

“I promise granddad but what is it?

“You’ll see he said as he got into the people carrier and drove off.”

The box was wrapped and secured with tape so he gave it to his mother to carry in her hand luggage.

Again they had the long wait until it was time to board the plane. There’s certain finality about leaving one country for another thought Jimmy but he made a promise that he would return one day.

The plane took off and the lights of Ontario got smaller and smaller until again all Jimmy saw was the clouds.

It was only when the boys’ asked for their books that pat saw the red coloured paper that was in the bottom of the bag. She handed it to Jimmy and said Granddad said I could open it once the plane was up in the air mam. “Can I open it now?

“Yes we want to know what it is.

Jimmy carefully unwrapped the box then lifted the lid underneath some cotton wool was a huge bear claw that had been mounted on a gold pendant the gold chain was heavy as he picked up the claw and turned it over it said: “It takes a man to kill a bear; but great wisdom to be a warrior” love from Granddad.

The claw had been cleaned and polished; he put it over his head where it hung around his neck.
