By the third week of their holiday they were able to relax again when the press moved onto another story breaking the headlines.

They were invited to each of the neighbour’s houses over the week to enjoy music and barbecues. The story wasn’t mentioned and Jimmy felt totally at ease playing with his friend and some of the family’s children. On the last week they went to Niagara Falls where they all boarded the Maid of the Mist and wore the plastic yellow mackintoshes’ and souwesters as they passed the falls they even saw the Horseshoe Falls on the American side as the boat took them down and back again. They spent a day in New York and took in a show on Broadway where they saw a production of “A Shot In the Dark” a comedy which was very funny.

Pat did some shopping with her mother whilst Michael, Harry, and the boys’ went sight seeing. The boys’ loved the burger bar they went into and couldn’t believe the size of them. They came with fries and a side salad. They paid for one glass of coke but they could refill as many times as they liked after that.

When they were finished they met up with Pat and June again who were heavy laden with shopping bags. Harry and Michael took some of the bags of clothing from both ladies then walked back to the car. They drove back across the border to Yorkville Ontario.

The last few days of their holiday was spent at a theme park in Toronto but Jimmy and Sydney enjoyed the last day of their holiday the best. They drove to the quayside with the boat. They used their hand lines to catch sea bream, snapper, and halibut up to ten pounds. They were kept in a cool box; until Jimmy’s grandfather showed them how to fillet the fish. They discarded the carcases over the side of the boat. The holiday had been a great adventure for both boys but later that evening they would be leaving for the long journey back home.

Whilst the boys were fishing Pat and her mother packed the suit cases and then put them into the other car in the garage. When they got back from fishing, they were all hungry so for their last meal Pat cooked up the Halibut with home made Chips with a slice of lemon and tomato ketchup. The fresh fish tasted beautiful; the boys’ cleaned their plates. Right you two said Pat we are going to have a little sleep because again we have to be at the airport for one in the morning; and we have a two hours wait.

The boys went up stairs but Pat followed them and went into her room then came out again the boys were lying on the beds when Pat gave them a book each to read on the plane.

Sydney got the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and Jimmy got “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

“Thanks; said the boys as they opened them and began to read.
