When Harry explained to his wife and Daughter what had happened both June and Patricia were shocked. Sydney and Jimmy however; took it all in their stride and were playing once again in the pool. In the kitchen both Michael and Harry cut up the meat and bagged it for the neighbours. Harry went around telling how his grandson had saved the lives of three people. They couldn’t thank him enough for the meat.

Later that afternoon the story got out on the news after the two girls had told their parents the contacted the radio and TV network CWAT Pictures from the scene made the news and they wanted information as to the young boy who a had bravely saved the lives of the young girls.

One of the neighbours saw it and rang in to tell them that the boy was actually from England and was staying with his Grand Parents.

Within half an hour the street was a hive of TV and Radio stations and photographers.

Jimmy and his friend were interviewed on many Television programmes and the news broadcast all over the world.

Pat rang Sydney’s mother to tell her what happened before the programmes were aired and told her that Sydney was safe.

Alicia then had to ring Kofi to tell him; they were relieved to hear the news.

During the course of the next week Jimmy had met the right honourable John Diefenbaker the Canadian prime minister and John F Kennedy the American president who had both presented Jimmy with the highest bravery award they could bestow. Jimmy was once again reunited with the two girls. Sydney told the story how his best friend had saved his life when the 400 pound bear came charging after him.

This was an even better human interest story because Sydney being black and his friend white. There was even talk of making a film of how it happened.

Then the newspapers started digging and discovered how Michael and Patricia were not Jimmy’s real parents and in fact had adopted him when his real parents were killed in a gas explosion.

Everyone wanted this story it was big news. Patricia and Michael drew the line after that to protect Jimmy from upsetting questions even though he was regarded as a hero in the eyes of the world.

Jimmy didn’t want to go out because he was now sick of all the questions.

They had to smuggle him out in the car so they could go out but they found he was recognised everywhere he went and people wanted his picture and autograph.

They did go to the Dundas retail cinema where they saw “The ParentTrap” which was a very apt title for how Michael and Patricia felt. They both felt under scrutiny from the media even though they were both professional people. They felt as if everything they said or did would be recorded and used against them.

Jimmy was fantastic; he was very protective and supportive of his new parents.

“He was polite when confronted by the press but emphasised that he was very happy with his new parents.
