Jimmy and Sydney helped as the tent was erected and tied off with guy ropes the supply of food was secured up a tree so that the bears could not get at it. Once every thing was done then they all got into the boat. Harry pulled the cord on the outboard motor and it fired up. Harry turned the boat around then headed off into the middle of the lake.

“Look over there Jimmy can you see the moose swimming across the lake.

“Yes I see it.”

Jimmy and Sydney watched as the moose swam to the other side of the lake then walked into the forest and was gone.

Michael mean while had tied on the lures to the rods as Harry turned off the engine and threw an anchor over the side.

Harry gave the boys’ a quick lesson on how to cast from a boat the boys would fish one way and the men the other.

“Ten dollars for the first fish caught and ten for the heaviest.

Jimmy was the first in the water with his lure as the rest followed; Jimmy used a jerky action that he had read about in a book to catch fish on a lure. He got a little inquiry so he quickly flicked the line out in the same spot this time with a jerk of his wrist the fish was caught on the lure and Jimmy reeled it in  it was a small brown trout weighing about a pound.

“Ten dollars to me I think dad.”

“Beginners luck said Michael.”

“Is it said Jimmy; as he reeled in another brown trout.

“What lure are you using asked his granddad it’s a little silver fish with a spinner on the end.”

“Well I have one of those and I’m not getting anything said Sydney. Look! Do as I am doing. Jimmy showed his friend what he was doing; see I am pretending to be an injured fish.

Sydney did as his friend had taught him and straight away he was into a fish. Don’t be in a hurry to bring him in, let him tire himself out first.

As the line got nearer the boat they could see that this was a better fish.

“You have got a bass said Harry as Sydney brought the fish to the net.

“Well done said Michael; that’s a good four pounds Sydney.”

“He quickly dispatched the fish and put it with the others.”

Looking in the tackle box jimmy found a slivery looking fly and tied it on his line in place of the one that he had on then cast further out.

Harry shouted that he had a fish on and he was confident that this was the biggest and indeed he was right it was at least six pounds. Then just as Harry brought his in Michael got into a good fish. Take your time dad, don’t lose him. Michael played the fish then brought it to the net that his son was holding.”

My dad beats you I think Granddad.
