Pat waited for the phone to answer as Jimmy sat behind his mother trying to hear as she explained to Alicia about taking Jimmy to Canada for a month.

“Yes Patricia; Sydney told me this evening he is really sad that he won’t see his friend for four week s but I have told him it will soon be over and that Jimmy will be back again.

The thing is Alicia would you and your husband mind if Sydney came with us.

“I do not know; it would be a lot of money and I do not think Kofi and I could afford that sort of money right now.”

“Look Alicia Michael and I will pay his fare if Kofi and you agree. You would need to have an up to date passport and a travel visa for him but I’m sure that we could sort that out.

“Kofi will be ringing me in half an hour can I ring you back?

Jimmy paced around the room like a caged lion until the phone rang again.

Pat picked up the receiver then smiled. Thank you Alicia I will tell him.”

“Sydney’s parents say he can go with us but his father wants to send money for his keep.”

“Yippee said Jimmy as he bounced on the sofa.

Jimmy threw his arms around both Pat and Michael then ran up to his room.

Jimmy sat on his bed reading the brusquer that his parents had got from Thomas Cook who they would be travelling with. Jimmy looked at the picture of Niagara Falls and it took his breath away; it was fantastic.

For the next few weeks Canada was all Sydney and Jimmy could talk about they took a bus into town and went to the library and sourced books on Canada. Jimmy Got one that told the history of the falls and how the North American Indians tested their bravery going over the falls they named Niagara meaning “Thunder Water” in wooden barrels. He read even a 63 year old woman a cat went over the falls in a barrel.
The evening before they were due to leave Pat made Jimmy go to bed about eight. Michael packed three large suitcases with the clothes they would need for a month they even packed Jimmy’s fishing lines. Alicia brought Sydney over about 9’clock and he went and lay on the bed with his friend. Then both Pat and Michael had an hour or two in bed before it was time to set off.

Michael squeezed the now four cases into the boot and gently closed the door.

Both boys’ were so excited at the prospect of flying more so Jimmy; who had never flown before.

“Now boys’ if you need to go to the loo now is the time; because we have a long drive ahead of us.

“I went before Doctor Connors.”

“So did I dad; come on get in the car and let’s go.”

“Right we are off said Michael as he pulled away and headed south.
