It was four o’clock when Michael finally woke up; he stretched his arms and yawned.

“Right you two let’s look at the map and see how far away we are from the car.

“We’ve already checked Doctor Connor’s it’s a little less than three miles.

“Come on then let’s head back.”

The boys’ picked up their rucksacks and helped each other to put them on their shoulders before setting off again. The journey down was a lot easier and it only took them a half an hour to reach the car park. They emptied their rubbish in the large bin then packed the rifles and their bags neatly in the boot so that they wouldn’t rattle around. He put Sydney’s bag at the front where Jimmy had placed two of the rabbits inside for Mrs Ahomet to make something with.

The traffic was lighter than it had been coming; there was a lot of Lorries on the road carrying frozen food all over the country in massive refrigerators.

He was able to take the fast lane which cut his journey by twenty minutes.

They dropped off Sydney. Both he and his mother he thanked Doctor Connor’s.

“You are more than welcome Alicia.”

“See you at school tomorrow Sydney.”

“Bye Jimmy.”

Michael waved as he drove off.

Jimmy took the rifles and his bag from the boot then untied his boots at the door before going into the house. He took the rifles into the shed where he cleaned them before hanging them up then cleaned his boots and polished them. They were hung up on the nail where his father used to hang his boots after hunting. Then he set about cleaning and polishing Michael’s. It was an hour before Jimmy returned to the house.

“Where is mam he asked; as he came into the kitchen with the rabbits and washed them under the tap then placing both onto a large serving dish?

“She is changing the sheets on the beds. Jimmy washed his hands then poured himself a drink of orange juice from the fridge. He picked up his library book “Through Stormy Seas” and turned to the second chapter. Jimmy’s head never left the book for almost two hours he was lost in a world with Sir Robert Falcon Scot onboard the SS Tera Nova cutting through the ice as if it were butter on brown bread.

By eight o’clock Patricia shouted down for him to get in the bath for school.

“Yes mam he replied just let me finish this page.
