“Come on then boys’ time to move I think said Michael getting to his feet. Linhope Spout is only down to the right. Follow me and do not run ahead; we do not want any accidents even though I am a doctor.

When they reached the waterfall and looked down at the sixty feet drop they knew what Michael had meant.

“How deep do you reckon that is then Doctor Connor’s.”

“It is 16 feet deep.”

“Have you ever jumped in from here?

“Yes; once as a boy of about you’re ages.”

“Can I jump in then dad?

“No, you are not allowed to now son; they have signs up if you look warning you of the danger. Someone drowned in it three years ago. You will see the cross as we walk around.

They carefully walked over the rocks to the other side where they saw a wooden cross.

They read the epitaph: To Our beloved son Jacob Newton who tragically died on may 19th 1957 aged 9 years.

“What a shame only nine; that was no life at all. They looked around at the rhododendron bushes with their purple, red, and yellow flowers.

“Well he is in a peaceful place now said Jimmy as they made their way further down the valley. They walked another three miles and came to a bench where they could sit and eat their lunch.

They spread the sandwiches out on the bench and shared them along with a nice piece of fruitcake that Patricia had packed for them. Once they had all eaten they packed away their rubbish in their bags to take back to the rubbish bins where the car was parked. They were certainly a lot lighter now; even with the four rabbits in Jimmy’s bag. They all lay on the grass in the sun whilst Michael had a nap.

The silence was broken only by the sound of sheep in the distance. Jimmy and Sydney put their hands behind their heads looking up at the clear blue sky.

“I wonder what’s really up there said Jimmy?

“They sent a monkey called Baker up last year and they are saying that they are going to send a man into space soon said Sydney.

“Wow! A rocket with a man in it; how fantastic is that.

“Astronaut; they call them astronauts Jimmy.”

“What about the moon; they say there’s a man in the moon don’t they?

“If there is then he hasn’t come back to tell us what it is like.”

Maybe the Martians from Mars captured him and took him back to their planet?

“Nobody knows because no-one has ever travelled that far.”

“One day they will be holidays to other planets; you’ll see.”

The boys stopped talking for a moment because Michael was snoring; they both giggled.
