The men at the Scott- Amundsen station were coming to the end of their research project. Jeff and Jimmy couldn’t wait to get back. They were now spending most of their time in the cabin collating the evidence that they had collected for both the research station and the university. The three men clicked away on a typewriter in their rooms. They had to finish everything before three o’clock tomorrow so they would be burning the midnight oil if they were not finished.

By seven o’clock the men stopped for dinner.

Jimmy cooked the last of the halibut with chips; they even had tomato ketchup and lemon with it.

“Martyn I need to ask you a big favour said Jeff nervously.”

“If its money you’re after, forget it; I have none.”

“It is not about money Martyn.”

“Then please tell me what it is about man instead of mumbling.”

I would like to ask if you could get the plane to make a stop in Australia tomorrow.”

“We haven’t got time for sightseeing in Australia Jeff.”

“No it’s to pick Jenny up and take her to England with me.”

“You must be kidding me right?

“No Martyn; I’m serious.”

“Do you realise what you are asking me Jeff?

“Yes, and I would understand if you said no; but I love her man and I want her to come to England where we can get married.”

“She’s a princess for God’s sake.” Do you really think that her father is going to allow her to leave New Zealand?

She’s in Australia Martyn; the king has no jurisdiction there.”

“She would be recognised by her passport straight away.

“She is getting a fake passport and cutting and colouring her hair so that she will not be recognised at the airport.”

“You have thought of every thing haven’t you?”

“I hope so or we are in deep doo doo otherwise. Will you do it then?

“In for a penny matey.”

“Jeff got up and nearly squeezed the life out of Martyn’s hand.”

Martyn radioed the airport to tell them that the plane would be making a short stop to pick up a fellow passenger. We will be taking off straight away for England afterwards.

“Well there you are, it is done now so there’s no backing out now.

Later that evening when Jenny radioed in, Jeff told her to be at the airport at six o’clock to check in. He also told her to wear her parker and a base ball cap so that now one could recognise her. She would just blend in with the other passengers.

“Do you think we can pull this off Jeff asked Jenny?

“It is up to you love; try not to act suspicious or it will draw attention.” “Just be like any other tourist going on holiday.”

“See you tomorrow then.”

“Bye love; and good luck.”
