Secrets *Marauder's Era Fanfic*

(Yes, I know it's a crappy title, but I actually think the story's pretty good!)
Alex Chase is the new girl at Hogwarts. But she put a twist on the stereotypical shy new girl. Alex is funny, outgoing, smart, and a prankster. Everyone thinks that she's pretty much an open book, and her best friends always know how she's feeling. But, like everyone else in the world, she has secrets. Hers are particularly big. And big secrets cause trouble, everyone knows that. So what will happen when those secrets stop being into secrets? Will everything fall apart? Or will it only make her stronger?

2. Chapter Two: Lily and Snape

Hi, guys and gals! I'm back, and I've changed my mind. I'm gonna continue writing this story, no matter what you say. Although I would like people to comment their opinions and suggestions and everything, I'm gonna write what I wanna write. Doesn't mean you have to read it! :) Anyways, just wanted to tell ya'll this before we continue!

I went back to the compartment I had put my bags in before I pranked the Slytherins. When I got there, I saw that two other people were already sitting down. I shrugged and still sat down with them. Both of their heads turned toward me, and I took a moment to look at them. There was a gorgeous redheaded girl with emerald green eyes and pale skin, and a boy with pasty-ish white skin, black eyes, and oily shoulder-length black hair. He had a bizarrely long nose as well.

The redhead smiled at me and exclaimed, "Oh! You must be the person who left their bags here!" I smiled sheepishly and nodded. "Yeah, that's me," I said. The redhead stuck out her hand. "I'm Lily Evans, and that's Severus Snape. And you are?" "I'm Alex, Alex Chase," I said, shaking her hand. "It's nice to meet you both!" I smiled at Severus. He gave me a curt nod in return, and I inwardly raised an eyebrow. Inwardly because I didn't want to seem rude.

I sat down next to Lily and pulled a book out of my pranking bag. What? I have to have a book on me at all times, just in case. Before I opened my book, I looked up at Lily and Severus. "You don't mind if I read, do you?" I asked them. Lily smiled and shook her head, and Severus just slightly glared at me, like I had done something wrong. I ignored his glare, and instead smiled back at Lily. Then I opened my book and began reading.

A while later, Lily tapped me on the shoulder. I put the bookmark in place and looked up at her expectantly. "We're getting close, you should change into your robes," she said. I suddenly noticed that she had replaced her jeans and t-shirt that she had been wearing previously with a Hogwarts robe with a Griffindor tie and crest. I smiled at her, "Thanks, I will." I grabbed my robes from my trunk and went to the bathrooms to change.

When I came back out, Lily and Severus were chatting, and I managed to slip in unnoticed. I picked my book back up and began reading, plunging farther into the tale of knights and dragons. But I only managed to read for a little bit until the train had stopped and we had to go to the carriages. I slipped my book back into my bag and left the compartment with Lily and Severus, or Snape, as I was starting to call him.

Students poured out of the train and I got pulled along by the tide, almost losing Lily once, but I managed to stay near her. I preferred to stay with Lily because then she would be able to show me the way to the carriages without her knowing. It was particularly easy to stick with Lily because she occasionally asked me questions, trying to keep me in the conversation.

Anyways, we finally got to the carriages, and I was shocked to find that they were pulled by thestrals, which were sort of skeletal winged horses who could only be seen by a person who has seen a death. My mind started to wander towards the person died and allowed me to see them, but I quickly started humming a song instead, and sang the lyrics in my mind. I didn't like to think about that particular death.

Me, Lily, and Snape all boarded the same carriage, which Snape didn't seem to like. I was about to start reading again, but Lily asked me a question first. "Why don't your robes have any house mark on them?" she asked suddenly. I glanced up at her and smiled mysteriously. "Oh, don't worry, you'll find out soon enough," I said, then laughed a bit out loud to myself, looking down at my blank robe.

When the carriage slowed to a stop, I looked up and my mouth dropped open. "Wow," I said as I looked at Hogwarts for the first time. Lily and Snape looked at me weirdly, and then I remembered - I'm in my fifth year, I shouldn't be so awed of the castle. But I really didn't care. They would find out why I acted like I had never seen the castle later tonight, so I didn't even bother telling them.

We got off the carriages, me patting one of the thestrals on the nose when I thought no one was looking. We walked into Hogwarts, and I looked around the castle, amazed, before I got pulled away by Professor McGonagall. "Come with me," she said and started walking. I quickly followed behind her, and she lead me up to the staff table in the Great Hall. I looked up at the ceiling, which had been enchanted to show the night sky. I remember reading about it in Hogwarts: A History.

I stood nervously at the end of the staff table, by a large, hairy man who I recalled seeing at the Hogsmeade station, shouting for the first years. I smiled tentatively at him, and he grinned a giant smile back, before turning his gaze upon Professor McGonagall, who was carrying a wooden stool up to the front of the hall, and then placed a old, worn wizards hat on it. I was wondering about why she had done that, but then the hat started to sing, causing me to jump along with some of the first years, who were gathered in a crowd in front of the hat.

When the hat finished it's song, everyone applauded, and then McGonagall stepped up. "I have an announcement," she stated. "We have a new fifth year student from America who is going to be sorted today, along with the first years." She waved me over, and I smiled broadly, practically strutting over to the stool. I waved at the school with a lazy smirk on my face, before diverting my attention to McGonagall. "Chase, Alexa," she called out, and I scrunched my nose at the sound of my first name. "Alex," I corrected her, before sitting down on the stool. She put the hat on my head, and I suddenly heard a voice in my head. I figured that it was the magical hat.

My, my, the hat said. How interesting. You have the traits from all of the houses, ambition, loyalty, intelligence, and bravery. I smirked at this and thought, Why thank you.

Yes, the hat continued. You have plenty of confidence as well, but wait- what's this? Ah, I see. You aren't fully confident in yourself, you have many insecurities...Hmm...Yes, but where to put you?

The sorting hat continued contemplating, and I could see the students whispering to each other, probably wondering why this was taking so long.

Hmm.... Oh, that explains it. I heard the sorting hat say. Now I know where to put you...

Sorry, not sorry for that cliffy! I guess you'll have to continue reading this story to find out what happens next, right? Mwahahahaha!!! >:) Well, anyways, thanks for reading!
