The Community

Albert Hewitt is fed up with his rebellious daughter Eliza. The final straw comes when Eliza gets expelled from her exclusive school. Albert has had enough. He decides to teach her a lesson. A good friend of Albert’s offers a place for Eliza to stay, a place where strict rules are in place and young women must learn their place. Albert assumes he is sending his daughter away to a finishing school. Unwillingly Albert sends Eliza into one of the strictest Cults in the country. Eliza finds herself in an unfamiliar place, with strange rules and even stranger people. She has been given a new name, a new wardrobe and strict commandments to live by. She is scared of her new surroundings, but one question remains hot on Eliza’s mind… Why her Father sent her here.

7. The Letter

Dear Miss Abigail David,

I offer my most sincere congratulations on graduating from lower school and on being welcomed as a new member of our Community.

I would also like to congratulate you on being offered a place at Lord Antony’s School. There the education is to a very high standard and the school has produced the finest members of our Community.

The process on welcoming you as a new member of the Community has come to a close. You are now an official member of the Community. This very process has been practiced for hundreds of years and has become tradition throughout generations. We are very glad to have shared this journey with you.

As you are aware your Ceremony has taken place. You and the other children approaching their tenth birthday have now been welcomed as members of our Community.

With your new found membership into our Community you must be introduced to a set of rules that you must live by. But we do not refer to them as rules. They are the commandments that we must follow in order to live respectful lives.

Your Parents and other senior members of the Community will assist you in following these commandments as young minds may often find them rather confusing.

They are practiced here to make sure you grow up into a good respectful adult member of our Community.

The commandments are much like rules at school, if you break a school rule you are punished, breaking these commandments will result in a similar occurrence.

The rules must be followed carefully and correctly, a failure to follow these rules will result in punishments, these could include a fine, imprisonment and possible expulsion from the Community, such measures are not taken lightly.

Not only will your mortal soul be in danger if these commandments are broken, but your spiritual soul will be in danger of going to hell and suffering eternal pain.
We would like to welcome you warmly into our Community. Good Luck.

Yours sincerely
RDavid

I read the letter in my head.
“Is that the letter you got today at your ceremony?” Mrs Morrison asked. I nodded my head. “Oh read it out, read it out!” she exclaimed. I read the letter out to her. She smiled brightly, she turned around back from needing the dough; she was making bread for dinner. “Oh it has changed so much since I had my ceremony.” She said. “You make sure you read that book they gave you carefully. It is very important you learn all the commandments.”
“Yes Mrs Morrison,”
