In That Moment, We Were Infinite (Book 5)

Family stays together until the end. No matter how close the end is, you have to stay together. Now maybe I'm not the perfect person to say this, but to lose them before you even got a chance with them is tragic. Trust me, that I do know. But I swear, in our last moments, we were infinite. And I would never give that up. Not for anything.

Athena's POV

"Come on." He sighed and grabbed my hand. We took a deep breath and apparated outside of Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

"You coming?" I asked and he hesitated, but nodded. "Let's go." I said. I ran in and the first place I went to look was dad's bedroom. I looked all over the place. Behind the bed, around his dresser, in his closet and the last place I thought to look was the right one after all.

"His dresser drawer." Remus told me, like he knew what was happening

"What are you-"

"Check it now so we can leave before Harry comes here." He said and I stared at him. I walked over to his bottom dresser drawer and opened it, and what I saw nearly made my heart and head explode.

A note and a box. The letter taped to the long box was old and I picked it up and read it slowly. "To my beautiful baby girl..." It was written elegantly and was nowhere near my fathers handwriting. "This was from mom, wasn't it?" I asked quietly. When Remus didn't say anything, I knew.

"When you're reading this, I'll probably be gone. But that doesn't mean my heart isn't with you. I'm probably watching you right now and cringing at all the bad decisions you're going to make. Or not, maybe not." I paused and a tear dropped onto the old parchment.

"Now, you'll only get this after your fathers gone as well, and I hope that will be a long time from now, but we all know it'll happen sometimes. There's no escaping the labyrinth of death, sweetheart. But what I want you to have was very special to me. Without it I wouldn't have been who I am today. So now, you can have it and you can also have a part of me." I said softly.

"I know I'll never be able to meet you or watch you grow up, but I'll love you endlessly. You're my little girl. Nobody knows what's going to happen when you're born but me, and that's okay. I'd give my life for you any day. You're going to be born in a few days now, and I really need this to be given to you. Your father has the conjoining note to this, so don't worry. Remus also has a copy incase something were to happen." I paused and looked up. He was staring at me and it looked as though he was going to cry.

"If your dad is alive, he will give this to you on your seventeenth birthday. If not, well, you'll have to find it somehow, won't you?" I paused and looked at the beautiful wooden box in my hand, and I wondered what was inside it. Something special.

"Now open the box, honey, and take what's inside. It's been unused for a long time probably, so be careful. Very careful until you get used to it. I love you, and stay safe. Love always, your mom." I closed my eyes and opened the lid to reveal the most beautiful mahogany coloured wand.

"It was your mothers. The thing is, you and her had twin cores. I think you will find this wand suits you very well." Remus said and walked over to me.

"Why did she leave this for me? It should've been buried with her."

"Your mother had her ways, and still does, even after she's gone." He said. "You look so much like her. You're so beautiful, and strong. I'm so proud of you, Athena." He whispered and kissed my head as he hugged me.

"I love you Remus. Thank you. You've been like a second dad my whole life, and you didn't even have to. I was just another thing to worry about yet you cared and treated me like your own anyway. You're such an amazing fucking person." I shook my head and hugged him tighter.

"Well of course I did. You're my god daughter and I love you. You're the closest thing to a kid I have, and not in a rude way or anything, considering the circumstances, I'm so, so glad I got you. The house wouldn't have been the same without you running around." He laughed and I smiled.

"Let's go before I start crying," I said and he nodded, and almost as soon as we got there, we left.

When we got home Molly and Arthur came to greet us. I told them what happened and I excused myself. I stepped outside and sat on the ground on a small patch of grass. I pulled her-my wand out and admired it for a moment. "Expecto Patronum." I closed my eyes and a bright figure shot out of the tip of it. But it wasn't a dolphin.

I stood up and went to find Fred, because there would be only one reasonable explanation. "What's your patronus?" I asked when I saw him laying on his bed.

"A lion, why?" I stared at him and my mouth slowly formed into a quirky smile.

"Because," I said and casted my patronus again.

"A lioness." We said at the same time.

"Isn't your patronus a dolphin?"

"It used to be." I said and he waved me over to his bed and pulled me down next to him.

"Well, soulmate, how did your day go?" He laughed.

"It was pretty eventful. I also found out my mum left me her wand after she died, but I wasn't supposed to get it until my seventeenth birthday." I explained.

"You're nineteen." He said stupidly.

"Very fucking good," I laughed. "My dad wasn't with me on my seventeenth birthday, then he died, so." I finished.

"Oh... So how did you find it?"

"Something he put in his last letter to me. I don't think it was about that, but it was something." I told him.

"Do you like the wand? Does it even work for you?"

"We have twin cores. It's powerful, yes. I like it. A lot. It's the only thing I have left from my mum and dad."
