In That Moment, We Were Infinite (Book 5)

Family stays together until the end. No matter how close the end is, you have to stay together. Now maybe I'm not the perfect person to say this, but to lose them before you even got a chance with them is tragic. Trust me, that I do know. But I swear, in our last moments, we were infinite. And I would never give that up. Not for anything.

Athena's POV

Almost as soon as I was out of my dress, we apparated to Hogsmeade. Aberforth let us in and through the portrait and the finally into Hogwarts. Most of Dumbledore's Army were there, along with Harry, Hermione and Ron. My heart did this thing and I felt so happy to know he was safe.

"Athena!" Harry exclaimed and I ran to hug him.

"What the hell do you think you're doing here?" I asked him.

"There's a horcrux. Here, in the castle. We need to find it and destroy it."

"Do you even have an idea of what it is?"

"Well... I'm so proud of you. You've been so brave. You've done great things. Don't get yourself hurt now."

"I don't plan on it." He smiled and I nodded.

We were all headed down to The Great Hall. It was so unreal, how much this castle had changed since I've been here last. Harry walked in first and was on about how Snape had done a terrible job at security. All of us walked in behind and whatever Harry said next, caused Snape to draw his wand on him.

Professor McGonagall pushed him out of the way and Snape's hand wavered, but he didn't pull away. And then they started duelling, and I must've missed something, because Snape was gone almost as soon as it started. There were students cheering and I felt Remus touch my arm.

I looked over and he gave me a smile. I returned it but my body turned as cold as ice when the high voice of Voldemort filled the halls. A few young girls, maybe first or second years were screaming and I felt like crying when I realized what was going to happen.

"They're supposed to be out of bed you blithering idiot!" McGonagall told him and I refrained from laughing. Seeing filch get told off was the best. And she ordered him to take the Slytherins to the dungeons and everyone started cheering, but I knew the happiness wasn't going to last much longer.

"We have to secure the castle." McGonagall told us and I looked between her and Remus. She nodded towards him and I smiled. I followed him and Kingsley and Dean Thomas followed me. There must've been a few others as well, but I didn't really pay any mind to them.

"Remus, what are we even doing? It's useless. He must have hundreds of followers, and what've we got?"

"It doesn't matter, Athena. We will win this, alright? Just find something to think of this as." He told me.

"We could avenge Lily and James. Dad, and everyone else we've lost. We'll make life better for everyone else in the future, and he'll be gone. They'll be nothing more to worry about." I muttered to myself. I repeated it until I believed it and turned to see Fred.

"Hey, hey, hey." He said when I ran to him. "This will work out, okay? We'll be alright and we'll be happy once this is over." He paused and kissed me. "You never told me where you wanted to go, either." He whispered.

"As long as I'm with you, I don't care." I answered and held him tighter.

"Don't worry, Athena. We'll be together after this. Don't forget that. I promise you that you won't be getting rid of me any time soon." He told me and kissed me.

"So I'll see you when this is all over? You'll see me and I'll see you."

"Absolutely." He smiled and kissed my head.

"Good. Be safe and I love you, so so much. My little ginger." I told him and he smiled.

"I love you so, so much too. Be safe." He said and ran his thumb over my bottom lip.

"Fred, I need to tell you something."

"Anything," he told me and raised an eyebrow at me.

"Well, I'm-"

"ATHENA, FRED! GO! THEY'VE BROKEN THE ENCHANTMENTS!" Remus yelled at us and I gave Fred a frantic look and he kissed me one more time.

"Tell me later, I love you." He said.

"I love you too." I said softly and ran the opposite direction.

It was as if none of this was even real. First, there was only us. Then there were Death Eaters everywhere. And people were screaming and telling spells and people were dying and I couldn't stop it. It was terrible because it wouldn't end. And I knew it was no joke.

My school friends were dying before my eyes. Their family and their friends were either wounded or dying themselves. My family was out there, fighting for their lives. My heart broke at the thought. I saw Dolohov with his wand pointed at me.

"STUPEFY!" I yelled before he could even comprehend the words he was going to say.

"That was awfully rude." I heard a voice from behind me.

"I don't think it would be wise to speak, Greyback." I hissed and turned around to face him.

"Feisty," he smirked. And before I even thought of what I was doing, all the anger and hatred towards this... Monster came out at once.

"I have a question."

"What would that be?"

"What kind of sick monster attacks a five year old for revenge?" I asked and his face contorted to rage.

"What did you just say to me?"

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" I yelled and he was dead. And the sad part is, I didn't feel any remorse. Not for him. I saw Remus glance over to me and he saw what I had done.

And I realized I hadn't told him I loved him. I ran towards him and hugged him tightly. " I love you so much. So, so much. Thank you." I said and let go.

"Be safe. Be strong." He whispered. "I love you." He kissed my head and I had to force myself to walk away.

I couldn't waste my time. Though I wished I could've stayed with him forever, I couldn't. I wished I could thank him over and over again for everything he's done for me, but now it's too late. Much too late.
