Proud To Be - Sirius Black's Daughter

Being the daughter of one of the most well known criminals was never a good factor in my life. I never had a father to look up to, to cherish and to love. Just some old photographs and an occasional childhood memory from Remus. But the day I met him, though I had already known he was innocent, that was the day I saw him for what he truly was. And I could honestly say that I was proud to be a Black.

2. chapter one

Athena's POV

Dad was sent to Azkaban two years later. I, of course never believed he was guilty. Not for a minute. I moved in with Remus as soon as dad had been taken away.

Not only was dad arrested, but Lily and James Potter had been murdered. It all seemed to happen so fast. I went from having the best family I could've ever imagined, to just a godfather that turned into a werewolf every month. Don't get me wrong, I love Remus, he's great, but to go from having everyone to just my godfather so quickly, it was something I'd never wish upon anyone.

Harry was too young to actually be my friend, and maybe it was the fact I was two years older than him. At the age of eleven, I, just like my father had gotten my Hogwarts acceptance letter. I adapted to the fact I was a wizard pretty quickly, considering who my family was. With many tears and rage filled nights, my worried subsided when I had gotten sorted into the same house as my father, Remus and James, of course.

I had been terrified that I would be sorted into Slytherin, like many of my relatives from dad's side, but I had nothing to worry about. The sorting hat had considered putting me in Ravenclaw, but it had put me in Gryffindor instead. I never could make friends easily, considering I was the daughter of Sirius Black, but it seems as though as soon as I sat at the Gryffindor table, I had made fast friends with two twins named Fred and George Weasley.

And now, I'm here, sitting on the Hogwarts Express with my feet on George's legs and my head on Fred's shoulder, about to start my fifth year.

"Have you heard?" I asked Fred, who was now subconsciously playing with my hair.

"Hmm?" He replies, looking down at me.

"Dad's broken out," I state simply and George looked up from whatever he was distracted by and stared at me.

"Your father... Broke out of Azkaban?" He asks and I nod, looking down at my hands.

"Has.. You or Remus..?"

"No, at least I don't think Remus has." I shrug.

"Are you okay?" He asks.

"Yeah, I mean, I never though of him as guilty. Ever. But he probably screwed things up for himself, anyway." I sighed and stood up. "Wanna go annoy Harry and Ron?" I asked, standing up. They nodded, following me to wherever I was going. I lead them down the corridor to where I knew Harry, Hermione, Ron and Remus were sharing a compartment.

As I was making my way towards it, the train slowed and an eerie silence filled the train. Heads appeared at the doors of each compartment, wondering what was going on. The train came to a sudden halt and the lamps flickered off. I backed up a step and my back ran into one of the twins chests.

"Lumos," Fred and George chorused and a light came from the tip of each wand.

"What d'you reckon it is?" One asked.

"I don't know," I said quietly, looking around. Though it wasn't much help, the light given from the twins' wand didn't help very much.

Not long after the lamps went out, it seemed that it was getting rather cold. A tall, hooded figure drifted towards the three of us, holding out a scabbed, slimy hand.

"Is that-"

"Dementor," I said softly and took a step back. "Get back," I hissed "then don't move." It seemed that no happiness was left in the world, and I could hear the deafening scream of a young girl, though I don't know who it was. It was quite clear that these were just the effects that the Dementors had on people. They suck the happiness out of you.

I took a step back, as the grey, decayed skin on the hand reached out and drew my wand from inside of my robes. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" I bellowed and a thick, silver mist protruded from the tip of my wand, forming the shake of what I've recognized as a dolphin. Almost immediately, the Dementor swooped away, defeated.

"Athena!" Remus' voice rang through my ears like many times before. "You... Since when could you produce a patronus?"

"I've been able for a while now," I muttered, putting my wand away again and straightening my robes. He pulled me into a hug, breathing a sigh of relief. "I'm fine, Remus." I tell him, hugging back.

"I know... I just.. I know." He smiled and looked back at Fred and George.

"That was bloody brilliant!" They exclaimed at the same time, causing me to smile at them.

"Here..." My godfather muttered, rummaging through his old, tattered robes. He handed me some chocolate and I nodded, smiling a slight bit.

I handed some to the twins and shoved mine in my own robes, not wanting to eat it. "How was Harry..?" I asked hesitantly.

"Fainted. I gave him some chocolate, should be fine." He said and I smiled.

"We were just going to see you guys, actually." I told him and he smiled.

"Well go on, I was just going to talk to the driver." He told us. I ushered Fred and George into the compartment Remus had just left and they nodded, getting that I wanted to talk to Remus alone.

"You don't look very well, are you okay?" I asked him quietly.

He brushed the comment off and nodded. "Nothing I haven't been through before," he replied with ease. I sighed and hugged him tightly, placing a small kiss on his cheek.

"I know, just making sure. Now go talk to the driver, I'll see you later, Rem. I love you." I sighed, just feeling bad that the closest thing I had to a father was forced to go through hell every full moon since he was very young.

I smiled once more at him before joining the others. "So, Harry Potter!" I smiled, looking at the young boy staring at me. "You know, you really do have your mothers eyes." He cast a glance at Fred and George before looking back at me. "You've been at Hogwarts for two years and we haven't been properly introduced yet. Shame,"

"Well.. I'm Harry Potter," he says holding his hand out for me to shake. I laughed at his need for being formal, but I took it anyway.

"Athena, Athena Black. I'm Professer Lupin's god daughter," I said with a smile.

I pushed my long, black hair from my face and nodded at Ron, who I had already met. He smiled nervously at me and obviously tried it make his hair look decent and I laughed under my breath. I guess Fred wasn't lying when he told me Ron had a crush on me.

"Hermione Granger! It's also a pleasure to meet the brightest witch in third year!" I exclaimed, casting sideways glance at Fred who was unusally close at my side today.

Hermione smiles shyly but I couldn't help the look Harry gave her. "By Black d'you mean-"

"Sirius Black's daughter? You got it, but don't worry, I'm not homicidal and I'm not going to be doing anything illegal to get me sent to Azkaban." I smile and look at them all again. "Well, it was great to meet you all, I hope I get to talk to you all soon, must be going now. We're nearly there." I say and walk out and back to my own compartment, the twins not far behind.

Well this was an interesting start to a new year
