What Came Before He Shot Her

Jack Wison, nothing but a simple psychiatrist and consellor, has been asked to help in the murder of Tanaquil Roberts, what he faces on his journey is up to him.

4. The Given Task

I walk over to the building and knock on the door, I hear footsteps and the door creak open, a man about 5”2, with a scruffy beard and a scar on his left cheek, he looked me up and down curiously before saying a word.

“How can I help you sir?” I look at the card the detective gave because I forgot his name, I’m not really good with names, I scan the card to look for the name and of course it was right in the corner really small, I couldn’t make out the name so I squint my eyes to make out what the name said.

“I was wondering if Jedediah Morris was here” he raises one eyebrow at me, grunts and gestures to me to come in; he closes the door behind me so the cool breeze wouldn’t come in.

“I’ll take you to him” he walks in front of me before gesturing to me to follow him what does he think I am? A dumb ass, I follow reluctantly just so I don’t have to be near him anymore, he smelt like moldy pickles, I tried so hard not to gag in front of him, I didn’t want to be rude. We turn around a corner and he stops before turning to face me

“Third door on the right” he looked me up and down again before walking off in the other direction, a shiver ran down my spine, he was creepy; I follow the directions he told me to go.

“One, two, three” I approach the door before knocking, footsteps echoed out of the room. The door opened slightly and a head crept out of the space.

“Jack, it’s good to see you; please come in” he opened the door quickly, he definitely meant business, he gestures me to sit down on the chair in front of his desk, what is it with these people using gestures? I pull out the chair and sit down in it trying to get comfy.

“So Jack, have you thought about your involvement to do with this investigation?” he looks at me with a hopeful look, I turn to his fingers on his desk, he was tapping them on the desk to show that he is impatient for my answer, I look away from his fingers and up to his face.

“I have thought long and hard about this and…” he cuts me off, he definitely is eager to hear my answer; the potential he sees in me must be real.

“Yes yes” his eyes widen and a smile appears on his face revealing his glistening white teeth.

“I will help you in this investigation” he jumps out of his chair and onto the table knocking off all the stacks of paper he had on it, he danced and danced all over the table without even realizing that he was being watched, suddenly he stopped dancing, slowly turned his head so it faced me, he got off the table, sat down on his chair with bright red cheeks. He shook his head before looking up at me.

“Sorry about that, now shall we begin?” he gets out of his chair and walks towards the papers he knocked off, he rummages through them before picking up a folder and handing it to me.

“I want you to go home and look through the evidence we have, come back tomorrow and tell me if you have any ideas that could help with the investigation.” He goes towards the door and opens it then gestures me to leave, I stand up and walk out of the room, down the hall, around the corner and headed out to the exit.
