25. Chapter 25

"… and when I finally found her at the bridge she had already thrown you over. I thought I lost you, I fell to the ground in tears," my mother was wiping away the tears Rolling down her cheeks as Jack comfortingly rubbed her back.

"I thought she had taken away my only pride and joy away from me. I screamed at her, said horrible things, and I remember. All she had said back was, 'you got what you deserved'. I ran down to the river I couldn't find you, it was dark and I ran into the water looking everywhere. I wanted to hold you, I needed you but I couldn't find you. The police had came because someone heard screaming out there and they reported it. They my tried helping me find something to figure out where you had disappeared too. But they told me there was no way you survived the fall and the cold water for so long. They took me back to the station. I grew depressed after that, it all washed over me so quickly. I didn't want to live anymore without you. I had even thought about killing myself." My mom looked away and I hugged her.

"Mom..." I didn't know what to say. "How did you find me?"

"Well I didn't kill myself because I did not fully believe you were gone. A mother knows. And everyday for two weeks I went to that police station and asked if anyone had came in with a found child. They eventually told me I need to just accept the fact that you were gone. But I couldn't. But that day, when the chief told me I need to accept it, this man with a young boy was in there and he had heard me. As I was walking out the man had stopped me. He asked me about my little girl. He offered to buy me lunch and let me talk about her. I told him how she had these big beautiful brown eyes, and this amazing laugh with a wonderful spirit. I told him how she was my world, and I didn't know that to do without her. That's when his wife walked in with a stroller and they had big smiles on their faces. The man had turned to me and said, 'ma'am, I can't imagine what you have gone through these past couple weeks. I am so sorry you had to suffer through all of this, I don't know what I would do without my boy. (He had picked his son up.) and I just want to tell you, you are a strong woman and never giving up on your child is an amazing thing.' Then his wife picked up the child from the stroller. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was my baby."

Tears were streaming down my cheeks now. I stood up and wiped them away.

My mother looked up at me with a smile and continued. "That man brought me the best thing anyone every could. He brought me my life back. Everything that made my life worth living. We had stayed in touch for about a year, until he moved away for his son to go to a better school."

"What was his son's name?" I asked
