Musical Autopsy

In this movella, I will strip a song down to its core and try to decipher its inner meaning, if it has one, and what is wrong with it. Song suggestions welcome. *Update - I only do songs that made one of the billboard charts at some point in time. Thanks!*

10. See You Again by Charlie Puth

Song: See You Again
Artist: Charlie Puth feat. Wiz Khalifa

Songwriter(s): -

Current Billboard Rating: 10

Billboard Peak: 1

Release Date: April 4th, 2015

First off, I want to say that I really like Charlie Puth. Wiz Khalifa? Not so much. Let's dive in:

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again

When I first heard this song, I thought it was about this girl leaving for college - Like a "Hey There Delilah" kind of deal. Now I understand that this person has died, and Charlie is going to tell the person about his day when he sees him in heaven. I approve.

We've come a long way from where we began

Now I think he is saying that this person lived a good life. Again, I approve.

Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
 When I see you again

 Damn, who knew?

And the first word, after Charlie's beautiful ballad, is a cuss word. Who would've guessed?

 All the planes we flew
 Good things we've been through
That I'll be standing right here talking to you
 About another path
I know we loved to hit the road and laugh
But something told me that it wouldn't last
 Had to switch up
Look at things different see the bigger picture
 Those were the days
 Hard work forever pays

Whiz gets a little better, I guess, as he is talking about where this person came from and what a good life he had.

Now I see you in a better place

How could we not talk about family when family's all that we got?

This seems to be a reasonable argument.

Everything I went through you were standing there by my side
And now you gonna be with me for the last ride

But he's now dead... I guess you mean in heaven, but whatever.

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
 When I see you again

Just in case you forgot the chorus.

First you both go out your way
And the vibe is feeling strong
And what's small turn to a friendship
A friendship turn into a bond

A friendship is a bond, yes.

And that bond will never be broken

Unless you betray them or one of you dies, sure, let's just go with that and be optimistic.

And the love will never get lost
 And when brotherhood come first
Then the line will never be crossed
 Established it on our own
When that line had to be drawn
And that line is what we reach
So remember me when I'm gone

But your friend went first, so he is definitely not going to help remember you, so yes. You can't change who you are talking to in the beginning of the song.

How could we not talk about family when family's all that we got?
Everything I went through you were standing there by my side
And now you gonna be with me for the last ride

So let the light guide your way, yeah
Hold every memory as you go
And every road you take will always lead you home, home

It's been a long day without you, my friend
And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again
We've come a long way from where we began
Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again

Still have to fit the chorus in one more time!

 When I see you again
 When I see you again
 When I see you again

I appreciate the fact that Charlie can sing fairly well and that he can play piano, but I think it could be better and that it would be better without Whiz.

This has been musical autopsy with Lavern.
