Musical Autopsy

In this movella, I will strip a song down to its core and try to decipher its inner meaning, if it has one, and what is wrong with it. Song suggestions welcome. *Update - I only do songs that made one of the billboard charts at some point in time. Thanks!*

7. Can't Feel My Face by The Weeknd

Song: Can't Feel My Face

Artist: The Weeknd

Songwriter(s): Savan Kotecha, Martin Max

Current Billboard Rating: 2

Billboard Peak: 2

Release Date: August 1, 2015

So up until about 6 minutes ago, I hadn't heard this song, but I checked it out. It sounds like the guy, who doesn't know how to spell, is trying to sound like Michael Jackson which is just annoying. Let's just get right to it:

And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come

Based off what he has said so far, she thinks this guy is good, but he is bad on the inside.

But at least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young
This I know, (yeah) this I know

She told me, "Don't worry about it"
She told me, "Don't worry no more"

Because that isn't suspicious at all.

We both knew we can't go without it

It? Usually, when songs say "it" they mean sex. If that is the case, this song just got really weird really fast.

She told me you'll never be in love-oh-oh, wooh

Please don't tell me this is another "Stay With Me".

I can't feel my face when I'm with you

I refuse to look up the meaning of this song for fear that I will be scarred for life, but this is what I think. I think he is trying to say that he isn't himself while he is around her or that he doesn't feel anything when he is around her. Sounds bad right?

But I love it, but I love it, oh

Apparently not.

I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

And I know she'll be the death of me, at least we'll both be numb
And she'll always get the best of me, the worst is yet to come
All the misery was necessary when we're deep in love
Yes I know (yes I know), yeah, I know

She told me, "Don't worry about it"
She told me, "Don't worry no more"
We both knew we can't go without it
She told me you'll never be in love-oh-oh, wooh

Okay, so we just repeated the same thing. That's okay though - it's only once right?

I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

Wrong.

I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

She told me, "Don't worry about it"
She told me, "Don't worry no more"
We both know we can't go without it
She told me you'll never be in love-oh-oh
 Wooh

This is becoming torturous

I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

Make it stop!

I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh
I can't feel my face when I'm with you
But I love it, but I love it, oh

Thank goodness.

I really hope that this The Weeknd thing is a one hit wonder. He is not the new Michael Jackson. This song is stupid. At least "Stay With Me" had 2 verses! This has one verse, one pre chorus, and one chorus. That is it. The song is 3 and a half minutes long. The art of songwriting is dying.

This has been Musical Autopsy with Lavern.
