Ronald Potter And The Gamorrean From Coruscant: Ronald Potter Year 2

Ronald's second year at the Jedi Temple. He finally survived his first year, leaving him to think his second year would be a breeze. He couldn't be more wrong. Ronald feels like he's drifting away from his friends, and it only makes matters worse when Ronald discovers he's not the extraordinary pilot he thought he was. When the school bullies take Ronald under their wing, he decides they aren't so bad...or are they? This year, Ronald will have to survive another encounter with Darth Vadermort, alien poetry tests, menacing robots, cyberbullies, more lightsaber battles, and worst of all, his apparently traitorous crush, Annabeth.

16. Ronald's Last Flight

Master Yoda had decided Ronald needed to write an apology letter to the Naboo Zoo, but after Darth Vadermort's return he changed his mind, having decided there was enough on his mind. Yoda and Librarian Lackbar had threatened to punish Ronald and Ammon for breaking several rules, including sneaking out after hours, minding other people's business, and using their lightsabers to kill. However, Yoda surprised them with medals for saving Annabeth's life.

And despite recent events, and the return of Darth Vadermort, school continued. The final exam for Starfighter Flight Training was next.

During the exam, everyone stood in a circle, with Mr. Maulpres in center. "You'll each be paired with other pilots, handed out on your exam paper," he said, and began handing them out.

Ammon and Annabeth...Ammon and Annabeth... Ronald chanted in his head.

And then Mr. Maulpres handed him his sheet. It said:

1. VERNON DUDLEY

2. SEVERUS UMBRIDGE

"Is this a joke?" Ronald moaned. "Not funny!"

Just then, Severus walked up to him. "You ready, leader?"

"Don't screw this up!" said Vernon. "We'll take care of you!"

"Remember, you'll all be flying at the same time, so don't run into each other," said Mr. Maulpres. He checked his watch. "All righty. You have one hour. Go!"

"You ready?" Severus asked.

Vernon climbed into his simulator. "Don't screw this up!"

Ronald climbed into the simulator, secured his helmet, and buckled his seat belt. "This is Blue Leader. All wings, report in."

Severus spoke over the built-in microphone. "Blue 2, standing by."

"Blue 3, standing by," said Vernon.

"Prepare to enter hyperspace." Everyone blasted into space and emerged at the designated asteroid field.

"We're about to enter the asteroid field," said Ronald. "Watch out for asteroids."

"It's an asteroid field, Ron," Vernon taunted. "What else would we watch out for?"

Bill and Silva were straight ahead. "All right, everyone, keep tight now," said Ronald, although he knew Bill and Silva cold hear him.

But Vernon had other ideas. He swerved past Bill, clipping his wing in the process.

"Hey, watch it!" said Bill. A moment later, his fighter brushed past another asteroid. He saw the damage through a meter in his simulator. "I've got a malfunction in fire control!" A moment later, his ship exploded.

"Hey! Stay together!" Ronald shouted. "Head to course PTDW2002!" A moment later, his wing bounced off an asteroid, causing his ship to jolt. He looked at his meter. Eight in ten. "Guys?" He adjusted the camera for a further view. "Guys?!" He adjusted it into closer range again. "My wingmen ditched me! I've got a bad feeling about this..."

At that point, Ammon and Eegan finished the course. Mary finished right after.

Meanwhile, Draco led Pansy and Greer through the field. "Follow me!" he said. "Together, our flight group will find its way through the--" Pansy shouted something to him; at that note, his fighter plowed into an asteroid. "D'oh!"

Just then, Ronald came up behind Tegan and Silva. "Does anyone see Vernon or Severus?" Thank goodness we can still hear each other...

"They made Bill crash, then flew ahead," Silva replied.

"Thanks," said Ronald. Ahead, he blew up an asteroid just in time. That was close! "Great, I'm on my own. I just need to use the Force..." He closed his eyes and kept his fingers gently on the lever. A moment later, his ship bounced off another asteroid, but remained intact. "Ouch!"

Meanwhile, Pansy and Greer finished the course.

Ronald checked his health meter. Three of ten. "I can do this...I'm fine."

Meanwhile, Tegan and Silva finished.

Ahead of Ronald, Severus and Vernon did three loops in front of June, Annabeth, and Aidan.

"Vernon! Severus! Watch out!" Annabeth shouted.

"Excuse us!" Severus and Vernon said together.

"My stabilizer's broken loose!" said Annabeth. Ahead of her, Aidan crashed.

"I lost my starboard engine!" said June.

Ronald swerved close behind. "Almost there...wait, what are Annabeth and June doing?" He flew ahead to see their predicament. "Watch out, you're going to crash!"

"We can't help it, we have too much damage!" June replied.

"Stay focused! I'll get you through this!" Ronald pulled a switch and jammed a lever. His fighter began spinning randomly, swerving and blowing up asteroids. "I'm here to help!"

"Ron! You're going to crash!" Annabeth shouted.

"It's worth the risk!" Ronald replied. "Annabeth! Increase speed to 1-8-2! June, use visual sight to follow my path!"

They both took position. "Keep going!" Ronald urged. An asteroid was right ahead of him.

"Ron, look out!" shouted Annabeth, but it was too late. Ronald's ship plowed into the asteroid and exploded.

With that, the screen went blank. Ronald sighed. "I guess it's Plant School for me after all." He climbed out of his simulator to find Severus and Vernon had already done the same.

"Ronald, where'd you go! You lost us!" said Vernon accusingly.

"You left me behind!" Ronald snapped.

"Too bad you couldn't finish, Ron," Vernon replied.

"Looks like another bad grade for you, ha!" Severus snickered.

Just then, Mr. Maulpres showed up behind them. "I'd worry about your own grade, Severus. You and Vernon weren't anywhere near perfect on this exam."

"What?" Vernon replied. "We both made it through with zero damage!"

"Yeah!" seconded Severus.

"You both failed to stay in formation, keep on task, assist your flight leader, and follow commands," Maulpres said. "C+."

"Ha!" Ronald said smugly.

Mr. Maulpres pointed a finger. "Don't look so smug, Mr. Potter. You only got a C-."

Ronald looked outraged. "But I should have at least a B!"

"You finished ninety percent of the course, but helping a second team wasn't part of your mission," Mr. Maulpres replied. "You also didn't maintain standard cohesion as flight leader. That showboating may impress your friends, but it won't impress me."

The way the year started, Ronald wasn't sure if he would pass Starfighter Flight Training. By the time the semester was halfway over, he wasn't sure he'd have any friends left. So it felt good to help Annabeth twice, even though he got in trouble both times. Mr. Maulpres had trouble deciding which grade to give him, but Ronald thought he would get an 'A' because of how he crashed. He was starting to think Mr. Maulpres didn't want to like him, but he did. He was only going to give Ronald a C-, but then Yoda convinced him to give Ronald a B instead. Getting a better grade than Severus and Vernon really made them mad, though.
