Ronald Potter And The Gamorrean From Coruscant: Ronald Potter Year 2

Ronald's second year at the Jedi Temple. He finally survived his first year, leaving him to think his second year would be a breeze. He couldn't be more wrong. Ronald feels like he's drifting away from his friends, and it only makes matters worse when Ronald discovers he's not the extraordinary pilot he thought he was. When the school bullies take Ronald under their wing, he decides they aren't so bad...or are they? This year, Ronald will have to survive another encounter with Darth Vadermort, alien poetry tests, menacing robots, cyberbullies, more lightsaber battles, and worst of all, his apparently traitorous crush, Annabeth.

13. Ronald Potter vs. Ammon Kendels

Soon after the Senate meeting, Ronald was walking the halls with Severus and Vernon. The Lightsaber Fencing Tournament was tomorrow.

"Hey, Ron, we really want our team to win," said Severus. "Do you think you can beat Ammon?"

Ronald frowned. "I don't know. He's really good."

"We have something that can help you," said Vernon. He drew a flash camera from his pocket. "If you get Ammon to face the bleachers, we can shine this in his eyes." He snapped the camera, and Ronald winced. Still shocked, he squeezed his eyes shut. "Then he'll be blinded, and you can beat him no problem."

"That would be cheating!" said Ronald, rubbing his right eye. "I'm not going to do that."

"It's not cheating, Ronald," Severus replied.

"Yeah, Jedi have to deal with unexpected problems all the time," said Vernon.

Now Ronald was really upset. First, he was pitted against Ammon. How can I make up with him if we have to fight? Second, Severus and Vernon were trying to make him cheat. Even though he kept telling them no, they threatened to tell Yoda it was Ronald who kidnapped Squeaker. But he feared that if he told on them, he wouldn't have any friends.

Finally, the annual tournament began. After quieting the crowd, Principal Antilles spoke formally, as the head of the Jedi Temple's Middle School system. "Thank you! Before we begin the tournament, we will have a special demonstration by our special guest, Master M'Batee!"

"Thank you!" said M'Batee. He stepped up and twirled his lightsaber in a classic combination of Jar'Kai and Makashi.

"Good luck, Ammon," Ronald whispered. Ammon pouted. He's not going to say anything? He looks like he wants to destroy me!

"Hey, Ronald, make sure you get Ammon to face our way," said Vernon.

"If you know what's good for you," Severus whispered.

Ronald turned back to the stage. Maybe I should let him destroy me. He gritted his teeth. Oh man, I sure hope Ammon and I aren't first...

Annabeth was first, this time up against Pansy. Pansy attacked, but Annabeth grounded the attack and slashed Pansy in the waist before she could bring her blade up and parry.

Once again, Vernon was pitted against Tegan. This time, Tegan was able to break the blade-lock and continue the fight. She brought her sword up, but Vernon slashed her in the side before she could attack again.

This time, Draco and Silva qualified. Silva performed sun djem on Draco's body after a brief clash.

Eegan clashed with Severus. After doing a bout of bladework with Severus, Eegan made for his legs. However, Seveurs flipped into the air and slashed him.

"Each team has two victories," Principal Antilles announced. "So, the final match will determine the winner. Ammon..." Ammon raised his blade... "versus Ronald!" Ronald looked frightened as his weapon came up in a parry.

Ammon attacked viciously, rapidly gaining ground on Ronald. Although Ronald could block his every move, his defenses finally began to tire. Is he trying to hurt me? Eventually, Ronald was forced to let his guard down.

Just as Ammon was about to strike Ronald, Vernon snapped the camera. The flash briefly blinded Ammon. "Gah! I can't see!" He screamed in shock and rubbed his eyes.

Ronald raised his lightsaber, his face a mask of hate. "Strike him down!" Severus shouted from the bleachers.

But then Ronald lowered his blade and looked at Ammon reproachfully. "Take your time..."

"OK, I'm ready," said Ammon, and charged. Their lightsabers clashed again. Finally, Ronald leaped over Ammon to strike him from behind, but it was in vain. Before he could strike, Ammon struck faster and drove his saber into Ronald's side.

Applause immediately erupted upon Ammon's victory.

"Ammon is the winner!" said M'Batee. "I hereby present to you this inscribed trophy."

With immeasurable regret, Ronald stepped down from the stage and left the auditorium. Meanwhile, the applause continued.

Just then, Ammon came running out. "Hey! Ron! Wait up!" Once he got closer, he said, "You did a good job."

"Thanks," Ronald said.

"But--but what happened?" said Ammon. "You could have won."

"It would have been cheating. Severus and Vernon were the ones who blinded you." Ronald looked down at his feet. "When it came down to it, I decided I didn't want to be like them. Sorry I've been such a bad friend. After Spring Break I thought you were mad at me, and I saw you holding Annabeth's hand, and I started thinking all sorts of things and..." He paused. "I know it's not an excuse. So I'm sorry."

"It's OK," Ammon replied, accepting his apology fully. "Friends?"

Ronald nodded, and they fist-bumped. Then he rounded the bend to hear Severus calling to him. "Hey! Ron!"

Ronald turned. "You made a big mistake," said Vernon.

"You could have won the tournament," Severus added. "Now we're going to have to--"

Just then, Yoda walked up. "Hmm...very shiny, that is," he said, pointing at Vernon's camera. "Trying to cheat, hmm? Very disappointing. To celebrate the tournament, be turned back on, Facebook will!" He turned to Severus and Vernon. "But wait a little longer to have Facebook, you two must."

"What?" Vernon replied.

"That sucks!" seconded Severus. As Yoda left, he turned to Ronald. "Congratulations, Ron. You suck."

"We're going to find a way to really make you pay now!" said Vernon, and turned to leave. Severus followed, and Ronald stayed behind.
