Ronald Potter And The Jedi Holocron: Ronald Potter Year 1

Ronald Potter's first year at the Jedi Temple. Ron's one dream is to leave home and attend Pilot Academy like his brother, father, and grandfather. But just as he is mysteriously denied entrance to Pilot Academy, he is invited to attend the Jedi Temple--a school that he didn't apply for and that only recruits 1-year-olds...until now. Now under the tutelage of Master Yoda, Ron learns that he possesses more strength and potential than he could have dreamed.

7. Volcanic Explosion

The meeting for posts on the school newspaper had begun. Tegan Courtney was the leader, and she was ready to assign posts.

Sitting in the middle, Tegan addressed the committee, speaking formally. "Thanks for coming, everyone! We've got a lot of work to do to get our next issue of the school newspaper on time," she said. As if she'd already thought it through, she began to give everyone their jobs. "June, you'll cover the lightsaber fencing tournament. Silva, you've got the science fair. Annabeth, you can do your advice column. Greer, you'll be taking photos. Aidan, you'll handle design and layout." She turned to Ronald. "And... Ronald, you're the new guy. What can you do?"

"Um...I can draw comics?" Ronald suggested, and handed Tegan a few of his comics. "These are my latest issues of Jawa Pilot."

Tegan looked over them. "Ha ha! These are funny! I think these would be perfect for the comic section." She turned to her group. "It is settled, then. Let's get started tomorrow after school."

The year continued, and proved to be slightly better for Ronald. He started working on Jawa Pilot comics, and he got an 'A' on his essay concerning the economic effects on the Cron Supernova on galactic trade routes. Everyone was working on their science fair projects, but everyone except Ronald was doing something Force-centric.

Annabeth was studying interactions between the Force and the natural environment. Ammon was always studying whenever Ronald needed his help. Bill was reading up on music and Jedi related in history. June was doing meditation exercises while lifting nearby objects in her state of mind.

Ronald couldn't even use the Force! Well, not consistently. Severus said that accidentally lifting soccer balls didn't count.

He was going to do a starfighter project, but Severus and Vernon said they already were and therefore Ronald would be copying them. Because Ronald couldn't think of anything else to do for his science project, Ammon helped him brainstorm, leading to Ronald's decision to make a baking soda volcano. He thought it sounded simple, but then he ended up doing research on Mustafar, and included actual details of molten rock and liquified minerals to the working model. He and Ammon ended up helping each other a lot. Ammon needed Ronald's help to take the readings while he ran tests for his lightsaber prototype. Afterwards Ammon helped Ronald paint the tiny flags lining his volcano.

The science fair had begun. Yoda and Principal Antilles scanned everyone's projects. After finishing with Annabeth, Antilles followed Yoda to see Ronald's volcano.

"What have you to show?" Yoda asked.

Didn't think they'd come so soon... Ronald hastily applied powder to the inside. "This is a complete replica of the Mustafar volcanic system," he replied, but his focus was on the volcano, which remained silent. "Maybe a little more?" Ronald poured in the rest.

The volcano fizzed ominously... and exploded! The shock wave knocked Ronald and Yoda to the ground, and covered Principal Antilles in fake lava.

No! Ronald was half-dazed from the fall. Then he heard Severus and his cronies laughing, stifled over the chattering around him over the failure of his crafting. He growled angrily, and the bullies flounced off triumphantly.

Yoda had gotten up as well. "Hmm... much like a real volcano, that was!" he said brightly.

Ronald shook his head, but didn't speak. Just then, Ammon came over. "Geez, Ron, I'm sorry...not much left of your project, huh?"

"No," Ronald replied. "All I found is this one tiny piece." All I have to show for the project...

"Excuse me!"

Everyone turned to see June standing in front of the assembled Force wielders.

"I'd be happy to help," said June. "I made a droid for my project. This will be the perfect chance to try its full ability."

Mr. Maulpres turned. "With what, Mrs. Barton?"

"By cleaning up the mess," June replied.

"I doubt such a hastily made project will do anything to remove the spots of Mr. Potter's clumsiness," said Maulpres.

Ronald felt his blood boiling. Does he get a little pleasure out of insulting me?

"Ray, that would be perfect," said Antilles.

June's droid was a success. When it managed to render the room spotless in fifteen minutes without breaking anything else, June won first place in the Fair. Second place went to Eegan for his Force-powered Perpetual Motion Machine, although it stopped working shortly afterwards.
