Falling for a Criminal (Loki Fan Fic)

It has been two years since awakening in Asgard, helping a criminal (being Loki) escape, and making a mistake bigger than helping that criminal. Thanks to that mistake Joy has been living with armbands of steel, an entity who speaks to her through mind, and two powers. The first power is telekinesis; able to move objects and people at will. Second power; make machinery explode at will. Loki pops up again after 2 years. And Joy might be falling for a criminal. It's a-okay long as he is immortal and such.
Curious now? Then read it.
Sequel to 'Awaken in Asgard'. Book 2 of 2.

7. Be so sure

"Any minute now the police are going to march in and yank the painting out," Jacob said, pacing back and forth. "So far we have nothing to go off of."

Loki is staring at the painting, puzzled, but otherwise rolling an eye at Jacob's attitude.

"Don't be so down," Loki said. "There is always a chance."

"If there is a chance Joy is really in a painting 'alive' then how come we don't see her?" Jacob asks, pausing to a stop mere inches away from Loki (who is standing near the wide painting) and The Great Painting.

"Perhaps The Great Painting doesn't work that way," Loki offers a possibility. "If it would; we might be terrified by what we see."

"I am not easily scared," Jacob said, narrowing his eyes. "Do you get scared watching Scream?"

"No," Loki said. "I don't get scared seeing someone scream."

"I meant by the movies," Jacob said.

"People enjoy watching people scream for a living?" Loki asks, startled.

"Safety mechanisms," Foryer said, staring down at the computer screen.

Loki folds his arms with a little sigh.

"I know that is a safety mechanism," Loki said, rolling an eye.

Foryer turns his head away from the computer.

"I meant by the painting," Foryer said.

Loki's facial reaction turns into a 'oh, my bad'.

"Now, you are making sense," Loki said.

"I am still a little skeptical about Joy being inside The Great Painting," Jacob said.

"Turn the painting around," Foryer instructs.

"And then what?" Jacob asks, as Loki looks closer to the painting.

"Then stab through it," Foryer said.

Jacob gasps in shock and disbelief.

"But Foryer," Jacob said. "This is expensive!"

Foryer has a little smile.

"And so are you,Steely," Foryer said.

"You know I am not," Jacob said. "And don't say my nickname when we're around a straight damn man."

Loki backs off from the painting.

"Joy has written on the windows," Loki said.

The painting is of a small wide house with various windows, rocky ledges overgrown in leaves, and a door pinned closed by wooden planks shoved in by screws, long bare tree sticks, dead leaves all over the place, garbage cans beside the right hand corner of the painting,a nightly scenery, and bright yellow lights beaming through the windows. When looking closer at the windows there are the visible words standing out in the fog being shined on easily reading 'Help me; SOS'.

Jacob takes out a magnifying glass then uses it to see what Loki had seen

"You have really good eyesight," Jacob remarks, lowering the magnifying glass.

"Better than a ordinary mortal," Loki said, proudly.

"You speak like a immortal,Mr Crane," Foryer said.

Loki nods.

"I get that a lot," Loki said. "One of my identity hints as Alan puts it." Loki taps on the painting using the bumpy side of his knuckles. "So, about these mechanisms, Foryer."

"Turn the painting around," Foryer said.

"Turn the ship around," Jacob said. "Sorry," Jacob shyly rubs the back of his neck getting a strange look from Loki. "Can't help it," Foryer turns on his phone that plays a lyric from a Star Wars Family Guy episode. "I love that song!"

Loki turns the painting around.

"Now what?" Loki asks, facing towards Foryer.

"Help our friend," Foryer said.

"By how?" Loki asks, raising eyebrows.

"Taking out a switch blade and jabbing it in," Foryer said. "Something like a switch blade."

Jacob turns his head towards Foryer.

"Foryer!" Jacob shouts.

"Doing that will undo a lot of things," Foryer explains. "Technically to everyone; Joy just got back, but to us it has been three days."

"Is there a website about this up and running?" Loki asks.

"Yes," Foryer said. "Except the painting randomly pops up different places after it has been done. Doesn't stay at one place for long."

"Jacob, use your blade," Loki said.

"Like hell no," Jacob said.

"It is the right thing to do," Loki said.

"No, you do it," Jacob said, shaking his hands. "I do not want to get my hands dirty on damaging expensive American historic items!"

Loki stares at Jacob for a good while with a 'seriously?' facial reaction.

"You have a moral on destroying expensive products," Loki said. "Now this is not an product, Steely, this is a animal!"

"You are not allowed to call by me that nickname,Mr Crane," Jacob said. "You have not earned the right."

"Then why does Foryer call you by that nickname affectionately?" Loki asks.

Foryer smirks.

"Foryer is my partner," Jacob said.

"One of you put your ear on the back of the panting that is facing us," Foryer said. "And listen carefully."

There is a moment of silence.

"I will do it," Loki said.

Loki puts his ear to the back frame of the painting and listens. Loki can hear small sounds of feet being dragged against the floorboards, the sound of floor boards cracking under heavy pressure, the sound of a raven kawing, and wind brushing dead leaves on the pavement. Am I hearing what I hear?, Loki thought in disbelief.

"Leave me alone!" Loki hears Joy's shout. Loki can hear the sound of a boot striking some body part rather hastily. "You ugly bone riddled creature!"

Loki can picture Joy then crawling down the hall  fast as she can pretty freaked out about where she is. Her panting is clear to his ears. Beads of sweat coming down her skin. Her hands slipping on the long wooden boards getting smeared in dirt. Terror is painted all over Joy's face. Joy looks over her shoulder towards the bone riddled creature chasing after. Joy let out a scream while her legs are still bound together.

"I said, away!" Joy shouts, turning her head back the direction she is headed.

Joy's elbow falters to the creaky floorboards leaving behind a bruise to her elbow.

Loki takes his ear off the back.

"It lives," Loki said, rubbing his chin perplexed.

Foryer stands up from the computer taking a dagger off the corner of the table.

"Mr Crane, will you do the honors tearing open the back?" Foryer asks, holding a dagger.

Loki recalls using a dagger to decommission several men around him.

"Sure," Loki said, taking the dagger.

Am I killer?, Loki thought, Perhaps Joy can answer.

"You really sure this expensive painting is alive?" Jacob asks.

"Worth a shot," Loki said, and then he stabs down into the backside of the painting erupting blinding white light out.

Jacob shields his eyes and so does Foryer.

"Guess we're facing the Basement Demon, again," Foryer said.

"This time you make the kill-shot!" Jacob said.

"Acceptable; given the situation," Foryer said.
